Season Recap 2024

McLaren was the biggest surprise of the 2024 season. Not only did they win the Constructors championship after nearly 17 years, at one point they were challenging Max Verstappen for the driver’s title. Lando Norris had been a part of Formula 1 for many years. He won his first race in the 2024 season and managed to give the Red Bull ace a run for his money.

McLaren picked off points easily from Red Bull as they capitalised on the opportunities and the talent of their drivers. There were some questionable moments for the team’s strategy for their drivers (Papaya Rules? Seriously McLaren). However, the team ultimately made well balanced decisions throughout the year which gave them the much-deserved win.

History

McLaren are the second oldest team on the 2025 Formula 1 grid. The team was founded by racer Bruce McLaren in 1963. McLaren have been a fairly successful formula team over the years. They have nine championships to their name and have fostered many great drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Alain Prost, Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen and Niki Lauda just to name a few. McLaren won their most recent championship in 2024 when they won the constructor’s championship.

Predictions for 2025

McLaren can find themselves in an edgy situation if they can’t prioritise one driver for the driver’s championship, considering the talented roster for the 2025 season. Considering Piastri’s explosive learning curve, he might challenge Lando Norris and turn out to be a championship contender if McLaren builds a faster car for the 2025 season.

Lando Norris

NameLando Norris
BirthplaceBristol, England
Birthdate13 November 1999

Lando Norris joined the McLaren driver program in 2017. He made his way into Formula 1 in 2019, partnering alongside Carlos Sainz. Norris became an important part of McLaren’s Formula 1 program and wants to win a championship with them. He has proved his worth time and again with McLaren and has evolved into their ace driver. Norris won his first race with McLaren in 2024 and went on to claim his best finish in the driver’s championship to date. Lando Norris has previously won the 2017 Formula 3 Championship.

BirthplaceMelbourne, Victoria, Australia
Birthdate6 April 2001

Oscar Piastri joined McLaren after a huge fiasco with Alpine. As a member of Alpine Academy, Piastri was set to join the French outfit in 2023. However, he famously cut ties with Alpine to join McLaren and finish one of the best Rookie seasons in the history of Formula 1. Piastri claimed his first victory in Formula 1 in 2024 and helped McLaren earn crucial points to solidify their place in the constructor championship. Oscar Piastri replaced compatriot Daniel Ricciardo at McLaren. He is the only driver in the history of the sport to win Formula Renault, Formula 3 and Formula 2 in successive seasons.
