“Who the hell cares” – Steve Kerr doesn’t want to view TJD’s performance as silver lining in Warriors’ loss

The Golden State Warriors are in the midst of a rollercoaster season, one that began with early season high but has since spiralled into a disaster. One of the major factors is turning out to be their clueless offense. Stephen Curry, who himself has been hot and cold this season, was once again left to do it all alone in team’s 114-98 loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday.

Despite his best efforts, including scoring 31 points, the Warriors simply couldn’t get enough help.

However, amid the frustration, there was one bright spot for Golden State: Trayce Jackson-Davis. After a disappointing performance against the Sacramento Kings just days earlier, TJD bounced back in a big way. The sophomore scored a season-high 19 points, just one shy of his career best, and grabbed seven rebounds.

Yet, head coach Steve Kerr wasn’t in the mood to celebrate individual performances. In a post-game press conference, a frustrated Kerr made it clear that the Warriors’ collective effort – or lack thereof – overshadowed any individual brilliance.

“I can’t sit here after that and be excited about anything,” Kerr said sharply. “I mean, he scored 19 points. Great. He’s having a good season, but who the hell cares if we’re not competitive?”, Kerr said after the defeat.

“I don’t mind missed shots,” Kerr continued. “But I mind when missed shots affect the defense and the attitude. We feel deflated right now. And there’s no room for feeling sorry for ourselves in the NBA, in life in general. We have to bring more fire”, Kerr added.

“I can’t sit here after that and be excited about anything. He scored 19 points. Great. He’s having a good season. But who the hell cares if we’re not competitive? If we don’t have a competitive spirit, a fight, and a willingness to compete through everything.”

After Tuesday’s loss, Warriors are now 18-18 this season and are barely holding onto a playoff spot, currently tied with the San Antonio Spurs for 10th in the Western Conference.

Warriors will now hit the roads for game against Detroit Pistons on Thursday.
