Why Lakers Head Coach and his family evacuated their home in Los Angeles?

Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick addressed the emergency situation unfolding back home as his family was forced to evacuate their homes on Tuesday. The family members of Warriors coach Steve Kerr were among thousands forced to evacuate their homes due to a wildfire.

JJ Redick’s family lives in South California and due to strong winds, a wildfire started around Los Angeles. It swept through a Los Angeles hillside where the Lakers coach lives with his family members. Officials haven’t shared any casualty in the Pacific Palisades area. There is also no reporting of any damage due to fire.

Redick acknowledged the situation which forced his family to evacuate their home in LA. He was speaking ahead of the NBA clash against Dallas Mavericks. “Our family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated,” Redick said. “I know a lot of people are freaking out right now, including my family. From the sound of things, with the winds coming tonight, I know a lot of people are scared.”

JJ Redick lives alongside the top celebrities in the Los Angeles hillside where the heavy winds caught fire in the morning on Tuesday. The fire got heavier and evacuation was started after facing the emergency situation. 30,000 residents were evacuated after the orders.

According to the National Weather Service, Santa Ana winds caused the wildfire in Los Angeles. They warned all the residents that it could be life-threatening. Santa Ana winds produce gusts up to 100 mph in mountains and foothills that haven’t seen substantial rainfall in months.

Warriors coach, Steve Kerr also revealed that his 90-year-old mother was among those evacuated. “Everything I’m seeing and reading is just terrifying what’s happening down there… Obviously the game is secondary to that and to many things in life. Perspective is important,” Kerr expressed after the Warriors’ 114-98 loss to Heat.

The Lakers will go on a five-game homestand and their flight back from Dallas had been delayed due to an unsafe situation in Los Angeles. There is heavy smoke and it can divert the flight from their routes.
