Jimmy Butler not a priority for Warriors: Report

According to ESPN reporter Marc Spears, Warriors are more inclined to get a center rather than bringing Jimmy Butler to the team.

While Jimmy Butler may view the Golden State Warriors as a potential destination, the feeling does not seem to be mutual. According to ESPN reporter Marc Spears on Tuesday (January 7), the Warriors consider the center position a higher priority for the team. As a result, the franchise is essentially out of the running for Butler.

“I’m hearing that the Warriors literally want to go bigger than Butler, and what I mean by that is they’re one of the most undersized teams in the league. So they’re trying to get a big guy to go alongside Draymond Green”, Spears said on Tuesday’s NBA Today.

Spears also mentioned other names, such as Nikola Vucevic of the Chicago Bulls, Walker Kessler and John Collins of the Utah Jazz, and Jonas Valanciunas of the Washington Wizards. However, he added that the Warriors do not want to include Andrew Wiggins or Jonathan Kuminga in any trade.

“People on their list include Nikola Vučević, who has probably been the top guy on that list… Keep an eye on some guys like Walker Kessler and John Collins with the Utah Jazz. Jonas Valančiūnas with the Washington Wizards. But the Warriors don’t want to trade Jonathan Kuminga or Andrew Wiggins. … Right now the Warriors seem much more interested in adding a big to go alongside Green with this team than another shooting guard”, the veteran reporter further added.

This makes it challenging for the team to find a deal that works financially. Additionally, the Warriors would need to convince other teams with an appealing package. In this regard, the franchise has 11 draft picks available for trade through 2031.

As a result, the team has sought reinforcements and traded for point guard Dennis Schroder in December, but they are still looking for more.
