Cody Rhodes to defend his Undisputed title against Kevin Owens in a Ladder Match at Royal Rumble.

Today’s WWE SmackDown episode ended a 25-year-old legacy when it premiered live from Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The episode was filled with thrilling moments that got the crowd going. SmackDown’s GM Nick Aldis started the show by giving an ultimatum to Kevin Owens. He asked K.O. to return the winged eagle by EOD. Chelsea Green’s celebration after winning the United States title was cut short by Michin who entered with a Kendo stick and attacked Piper Niven.

Kevin Owens vs. Cody Rhodes in a Ladder Match at Royal Rumble

Nick Aldis told Owens that if he didn’t make himself clear at the start of the show, he would do it now. He threatened K.O. to return the belt if he wanted to set foot in the squared ring. Crowds were given a late Christmas gift when American Nightmare’s music hit and Cody Rhodes entered the arena. Nick asked him to let him handle the issue. He asked Cody to leave for his sake, for Cody’s sake, and the sake of the company.

Cody, who has not fully recovered responded that he would not leave. He said he doesn’t want K.O. to return the belt. Cody called K.O. a liar. He lied when he claimed his hatred for Cody started when he sided with Roman Reigns. He is no different when he claims that Roman tried to end his livelihood while he did the same to Cody after their match.

Cody said he doesn’t do it for himself but for the fans, for his daughters, for the people who believe in him, and for his mentor, Randy, who isn’t playing because of Kevin. Cody told Kevin that the “Eagle Winged Belt” was handed over to Cody by Triple H for one night only. He told Nick that it was now his responsibility to take that belt from K.O.

Cody asked Owens for a match where the referee wouldn’t stop what he would do to him. Cody and Nick argued for a while. Nick announced that the American Nightmare would face K.O. for the Undisputed Championship in a Ladder Match at Royal Rumble. Kevin Owens seemed a man possessed as he pushed Nick and kicked Cody thrice on his already injured neck.

Sami vs. Carmelo Hayes match ends with Bloodline 2.0 interruption.

The match between the agility of Carmelo Hayes and the experience of Sami Zayn ended in a disqualification. Both the superstars showed great in-ring awareness and maneuvers. Sami Zayn was dominating Melo. Melo left the ring after Sami delivered an exploder and set up for Helluva Kick. Melo was chased by Brawn Strowman while Bloodline entered the ring and attacked Sami Zayn.

The Monster amongst Men picked Melo on his shoulder to throw him inside the ring but saw Bloodline 2.0 attacking Sami Zayn. He rushed to help Sami and single-handedly dominated the Bloodline. Tama Tonga attacked his leg from behind and the numbers game proved too much for him. Sami entered the ring to beat Solo but could save himself from a three-on-one beatdown.

Bayley, Bianca, and Naomi defeat Nia Jax, Candice LeRae and Tiffany Stratton

While Bayley, Bianca, and Naomi showed great communication during the match, it seemed that Candice LeRae and Tiffany had their disputes. Nia Jax dominated Bianca when a miscommunication between Miss MITB Tiffany and LeRae led to The EST tagging Bayley in. A back-and-forth battle between the teams went to a near-stalemate.

Naomi performed a springboard moonsault on Nia to gain momentum but Tiffany threw her out of the ring. Tiffany thought of cashing in her Money In The Bank briefcase seeing she was the only one on her feet. LeRae stopped her from cashing in her MITB. A dispute between the two LeRae and Tiffany led to LeRae being thrown inside the ring where Naomi was waiting. She pinned LeRae to win the match for her team.

Brawn Strowman dominated Austin Theory

The Monster of all Monsters was too much for the Austin Theory who seemed clueless against Brawn. Brawn Strowmen kept throwing Austin inside the ring. He stopped Theory’s heart with a thunderous Chop to the chest. Even an interruption from Greyson Waller wasn’t enough to help Austin.

Brawn took out Austin Theory outside the ring with a running clothesline. The monster amongst men picked Theory on his shoulder and tossed him inside the ring. A running power slam was enough to pin Austin Theory and win the match.

Street Profits vs. Los Garza

Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford showed no mercy as they believed Berto and Angel were their mystery attackers. Angel and Berto’s mocking them using Street Profit’s high-flying defense didn’t help either. Ford’s high-flying moves along with Dawkins’s strength didn’t let Los Garza dominate the match. Street Profits got the crowd going with their high-risk maneuvers and impressively won the match.
