A quick look at the top tournaments shaping the WTA calendar this May.
May of 2025 promises plenty of action in the 2025 WTA season, though April delivered its fair share of tennis drama. Among the seven events held last month, the standout tournaments were the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix (Stuttgart Open), the Open Capfinances Rouen Metropole, and the Mutua Madrid Open.
In Stuttgart, Jelena Ostapenko claimed the title with an impressive run, defeating World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final. Along the way, she also beat world No. 2 Iga Swiątek, extending her dominant 6–0 head-to-head record against the Pole.
At the WTA 250 in Rouen, Elina Svitolina overcame Olga Danilovic in a tight straight-sets final. Meanwhile, at the Madrid Open, Sabalenka bounced back to clinch the WTA 1000 title with a straight-sets win over Coco Gauff, edging the American in a second-set tiebreak.
