New champion confirmed in Riyadh.
Having started with the eight best superstars on the women’s circuit, we are down to four at the 2025 WTA Finals. After a week full of tensions and high quality performances, Friday will witness two semifinal showdowns to determine who enters the summit clash. In a shocking turn of events, World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka sent defending champion Coco Gauff packing in the Group Stage on Thursday. So who will battle it out in the final four?

There will be baseline attacks galore, when Jessica Pegula and Elena Rybakina lock horns in the opening semifinal in Riyadh. The Kazakh powerhouse has looked in flawless touch this week, and seems to be one of the favorites to win the title at present. If we take the first set against Iga Swiatek out of the picture, Rybakina has played six sets of the highest order to advance to the semifinals unbeaten.

In the Steffi Graf Group, Pegula’s win over reigning champion Gauff put her in prime position to qualify. Despite losing to Sabalenka in the second duel, she comfortably overpowered Jasmine Paolini to seal her spot in the semis. Nonetheless, the 31-year-old American will go into this match-up as the underdog, especially considering the current form of Rybakina.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will face two-time Grand Slam finalist Amanda Anisimova in the second semifinal of the evening. The Belarusian powered through the round robin stage without a single defeat. Barring a minor hiccup against Jessica Pegula, Sabalenka raced into the knockouts with relative ease. On the other hand, Anisimova produced two comeback wins after losing her first match to qualify.

After losing the Wimbledon final to Iga Swiatek, Anisimova earned sweet revenge at the US Open and now at the season-ending championships. The 24-year-old also leads the head-to-head against Sabalenka by 6-4. In 2025 however, the four-time major champion faced each other in three consecutive Grand Slams – with Sabalenka winning two of these encounters – including the final at Flushing Meadows.
