WIth a 6-3 victory at the Garden, Winnipeg is making History
The Winnipeg Jets have become the first team ever to win 15 of their first 16 games in a NHL season.
Their 6-3 victory over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night was not just another win; it was a statement of dominance and a showcase of their exceptional form this season.
Playing under the bright lights of MSG, the Jets delivered a performance that perfectly encapsulated their season so far.
Center Mark Scheifele led the charge with two goals, opening the scoring just 57 seconds into the game.
“You play at MSG, you’ve got to put on a show,” Scheifele remarked post-game. “It feels amazing. Obviously, it’s been a great start for us, but tonight’s over. Enjoy the win, and then back to work.”
The Jets’ offensive prowess has been nothing short of spectacular. They’ve scored five or more goals in half of their games, amassing a total of 73 goals in their first 16 outings—the third-highest in the past three decades. Their road record is equally impressive, boasting a perfect 7-0-0 away from Winnipeg and setting a new NHL benchmark with 36 goals scored in those games.
Head coach Scott Arniel, who stepped up from associate coach in the offseason, credited the team’s collective effort. “We had talked about banking points at the start of the season. We’ve got a very tough division. I don’t think I quite drew it up this way, but certainly the guys have earned every inch of it,” Arniel said.
Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been a fortress between the pipes, making 33 crucial saves against the Rangers. His season record now stands at an astounding 12-1-0, outdueling top-tier counterparts like Igor Shesterkin in the process.
“It’s coming from all areas of our team, top to bottom. Everybody’s involved in it, and that’s what makes it so dangerous, so lethal,” added Kyle Connor, who also found the back of the net twice in the game.
Their balance of explosive offense and rock-solid defense has made them a formidable opponent for any team.
As they prepare to face the Tampa Bay Lightning and the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, the Jets remain focused yet humble.
