Connor McDavid reaches 999 points while Leon Draisaitl’s two goals secure OT victory for the Oilers against the Islanders.
Connor McDavid is merely one point away from adding yet another remarkable chapter to his already legendary career.
McDavid scored one goal and recorded three assists, including assisting on Leon Draisaitl’s winning goal in overtime, as the Edmonton Oilers secured their second consecutive victory by overcoming the New York Islanders 4-3 on Tuesday.
The star forward is now only one point shy of being the 99th player in NHL history to reach the coveted 1,000-point milestone in his career.
Now that 658 games have been played when McDavid reaches the milestone, he will be the fourth-fastest player to do so—only behind Wayne Gretzky (424), Mario Lemieux (513), and Mike Bossy (656). At 27, he will be the fourth-youngest player in history to achieve 1,000 points too.

“Nothing’s happened yet, I guess maybe I’ll save that for when it happens, but it’s not lost on me the speed to get there with the names that are there above me, the very best, But nothing’s happened, have to get ready for another one on Thursday.” : McDavid said.
McDavid has now tallied seven points in his last two matches after registering just two points in his prior four.
The Oilers’ captain aims to reach the remarkable 1,000 point milestone on Thursday at home against the Nashville Predators, an achievement Draisaitl believes he would rather accomplish now than have to chase when the Oilers head to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Draisaitl scored two goals in the match, bringing his total to 12 for the season, while Evan Bouchard contributed one goal and two assists for the Oilers (8-7-1), who have now secured six consecutive home victories over the Islanders and have a remarkable 12-1-0 record against New York in their last 13 encounters in Edmonton. Goalie Stuart Skinner recorded 19 saves for the Oilers.
Anders Lee netted two goals, and Kyle Palmieri added another for the Islanders (6-6-4), who have suffered two consecutive losses. New York was behind 3-1 halfway through the third period and staged a remarkable comeback to earn a point, but failed to finish the comeback in overtime.
“There are nights going home, you’re pissed off. There are nights you’re going home and say, ‘OK, we stole a point.’ And tonight, that was the case, Down 3-1, the guys showed a lot of resilience. : said Islanders head coach Patrick Roy
“But at the end, I think we were just gassed. I’m extremely proud of our guys. Extremely proud. That was a good effort by our guys, and we played against a very good team. : Mentioned Patrick Roy.
Ilya Sorokin recorded 38 saves in goal for the Islanders.

Whether it’s breaking down a game, analyzing a big trade, or capturing the emotions on the ice, I bring the NHL to life through words. So what’s the best part you ask? Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
