The NFL Honors were handed out yesterday. We as fans experienced a surge of offense and defense every season in the NFL. Each season better than the previous ones. In the 2024-25 season, we had many MVP candidates including a running back. We saw Saquon Barkley of the Eagles cross 2000 yards in rushing which was one of the best ever in the NFL. We also had four quarterbacks including; Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Jared Goff, competing for the MVP trophy. The MVP race was neck-and-neck. There was no clear cut winner this time around.
Each MVP candidate had their ups and down. For context, Joe Burrow had the best stats amongst the four, however, his win-loss record hurt his chances. Josh Allen had a tremendous season, but his numbers weren’t the best amongst other candidates and so forth. At the end, Josh Allen took home the MVP honors which is his first. However, not everybody agrees that Allen should have won.
If you look at Allen and Jackson’s stats in the 2024 season, Lamar leads in almost every category. So the question arises, why did Josh Allen win the MVP award instead of Lamar Jackson? Was Jackson robbed?
There are two answers to this question. Firstly, many believe that it’s voter’s fatigue which means the voters will simply tired of handing out the MVP trophy to the Jackson. While this sounds more like a personal motive than an unbiased vote, it happens in every sport there is. For example, Nikola Jokic of the NBA was handed out back-to-back MVPs. However, even though Jokic had a better season, Joel Embiid won the MVP award.
Another reason why Allen was handed the MVP instead of Jackson is simple. MVP means most valuable player and Allen was just more valuable to the Bills. The Ravens had a loaded roster, from top to bottom. They had 9 Pro-Bowlers. Meanwhile, Allen had less talent to work with and still delivered. The Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Texans which was a major blow for them. Despite losing some major talent, Allen still balled out, which may be the reason why the MVP went to him.

None of them said Josh Allen.
Lamar Jackson was ROBBED 🤦♂️ https://t.co/80rPAqgtz6 pic.twitter.com/WoZRdILdsI
| Category | Lamar Jackson | Josh Allen |
| Passing Yards | 4172 | 3731 |
| Passing Touchdowns | 41 | 28 |
| Rushing Yards | 915 | 531 |
| Rushing Touchdowns | 4 | 12 |
| Games Played | 17 | 17 |
| Interception thrown | 4 | 6 |
| Quarterback Rating | 77.2 | 77.3 |
| Pass Completion Percentage | 66.7 | 63.6 |
| Times Sacked | 23 | 14 |
The biggest surprise amongst the two is not even the stats. It’s the fact that Lamar Jackson was selected in the All-Pro First team. Whereas Josh Allen was not named a All-Pro 1st and still won the MVP award. The last time a first-team All-Pro and the NFL MVP were different was when John Elway took him the MVP trophy but Joe Montana was the All-Pro quarterback.
Even Allen himself was surprised that he ended up winning the award. He said “I was pretty surprised. Given what we know about how typically the voting goes, and Lamar was very deserving of this award as well.”

It is also important to note that so far in the 2024 season, Allen is the only QB who beat Mahomes and the Chiefs so far. Nobody had an answer for the Chiefs except the Bills. This must have surely added to some merit points to Allen’s MVP case. We will never truly know what, how, and why the voters choose who they choose. The criteria changes every season and it is hard to keep up. While Jackson had a great season, Allen was not an accidental pick by no means. Both QBs were equally deserving.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
