Footage of the fabric of the roof getting blown away went viral on social media as Hurricane Milton made landfall on Wednesday.
The roof of Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, was ripped off Wednesday night after Hurricane Milton made a category 3 landfall in Tampa Bay.
Within a few hours of its landing, parts of the roof started shedding off. Footage of the fabric of the roof getting blown away went viral on social media, with the video showing only pieces on the sides remaining on the roof.

The field was set to be used as a base camp for first responders and extra shelter amid the deadly storm. However, there are reports that people are trapped inside the stadium and forced to look for shelters in corridors.

Meanwhile, Raymond James Stadium, the home of the NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has also been badly impacted by the storm. The Buccaneers left town early after the hurricane warning and are on the road this week to play the New Orleans Saints.
Tampa residents were asked to evacuate days before Hurricane Milton’s landfall after forecasters warned that the storm surge could reach up to 13 feet in the region. Tampa mayor Jane Castor warned residents that staying in the evacuation zones will most likely lead to death.
