Micah Hyde Joins Bills Practice Squad, Strengthening Defensive Depth
Micah Hyde is making his comeback to Buffalo. The Buffalo Bills agreed on a practice squad contract, the team revealed on Wednesday. Coach Sean McDermott stated on Wednesday that Hyde will not be starting at first and that they will handle his role daily.
“Micah Hyde is in a practice squad role, Extremely confident in Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin and Cole Bishop. They’ve all been doing a real good job for us in the roles that they are currently in. They’re going to stay in those roles and Micah is in a practice squad role, so good to have him back and his family as well.” : Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said of Hyde’s deal.

Hyde spent the final seven seasons with the Bills and established himself as a key player in their defensive backfield during one of the franchise’s most important periods. Nonetheless, his future remained quite uncertain following the 2023 campaign.
Micah Hyde also commented on the situation regarding his comeback,
“I just have no idea what the future holds right now, I’m going to sit down and maybe in a couple of weeks or something and talk to the wife and talk to the family. But we’ll see. I’m in no rush at all right now.” : Hyde told reporters following the playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Hyde began his career with the Green Bay Packers for the first four years but made his mark as a Pro Bowler in his inaugural season with Buffalo in 2017, recording 82 tackles, 13 passes defended, and five interceptions.
Although the Bills have not secured a Super Bowl while he has been on the team, he significantly contributed to their playoff appearances every year from 2019 to 2023.
Hyde sat out three games in 2023 after playing in only two games in 2022 because of a severe neck injury that necessitated surgery. Considering his age, past injuries, and position as a free agent, it appeared that his time in Buffalo was coming to an end and he might choose retirement.
However, Hyde now becomes part of a Bills team that has started the season at 10-2, enabling it to secure the AFC East.
Buffalo and Hyde are definitely eyeing the Lombardi Trophy after this transaction, as he works to enhance a 2023 season that included 54 tackles, seven passes defended, and two interceptions. Although he will initially join the practice squad, Hyde gives the Bills valuable depth and experience at safety.
