Buckeyes' Offensive Tackle Josh Simmons Enters 2025 Draft
The Ohio State Buckeyes are concentrating on their nearest rival, the NCAAF Playoffs, while gradually starting to prepare for the next season. Consequently, a few players are beginning to determine their futures, and one of them, the skilled OT Josh Simmons, already has plans for what he will pursue after his season ends.
Josh Simmons is out for the entire season because of a severe knee injury, which has led him to pause all activities until he fully heals, hoping he will be prepared by the beginning of the next season. Nevertheless, this is not a crucial element for the player’s future.
As per reports, the OT, who plays a crucial role in Ryan Day’s system, has chosen to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed the news through his X (previously Twitter) account.
“Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons has declared for the draft. Simmons had season-ending knee surgery after the Oregon game, but his new agent Drew Rosenhaus said surgery went well and he’s already is ahead of schedule with his rehab,” Schefter stated.

Ohio State faced difficulties in compensating for Simmons’ output following his injury, initially relying on backup left tackle Zen Michalski and subsequently on left guard Donovan Jackson at the left tackle position. Michalski got hurt in the following match, paving the way for Jackson to take on the role of full-time left tackle.
Simmons had one year of eligibility left, and Ohio State was hopeful that he might come back to lead the Buckeyes’ offensive line and establish himself as a first-round draft pick.
Instead, he’s going to the NFL Draft to start his professional football journey. And Ohio State must determine how to fill his position at left tackle for next season.
Before his injury, Simmons was enjoying an impressive season with the Buckeyes and appeared to be a top pick this year.
Simmons ranks as the No. 22 prospect on its 2025 Big Board. NFL Draft analyst Mike Renner ranked the Buckeyes’ standout as the No. 3 offensive tackle in his latest positional evaluations for the 2025 Draft. Simmons comes after Texas’ Kelvin Banks Jr. and LSU’s Will Campbell.
However, the latest update is that Josh Simmons has officially entered the 2025 NFL Draft, a choice verified by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. The news arrives even though Simmons had knee surgery that ended his season due to an injury incurred in the Buckeyes’ close 32-31 defeat to Oregon on October 12.
Simmons started his college journey at San Diego State University. He played his initial two seasons with the Aztecs but ultimately entered the transfer portal before the 2023 season.
In his initial season with the Buckeyes, Simmons achieved a 67.5 PFF grade. However, the advancements from his junior to senior year are already evident, as he maintains a 76.5 PFF grade after four games.
