Former New England Patriots QB Mac Jones will replace Lawrence for Vikings clash.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to face Minnesota Vikings without their star quarterback Trevor Lawrence who has been sidelined due to a left shoulder injury sustained in last week’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Backup quarterback Mac Jones is expected to start in his place.
Earlier, head coach Doug Pederson confirmed that Lawrence is “trending toward not playing.”
“Obviously, we’ve got one more [practice] day today. He’s been very limited all week.”
“It is trending, obviously, in a way that’s probably to not playing or leaning towards not playing“, Pederson said during the pre-game conference.
Lawrence’s injury is a massive blow for the Jaguars, who have struggled this NFL season with a record of 2-7. Lawrence has been a key player for the team, completing 61.3% of his passes for 2,004 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions this season.
Notably, the 25-year-old has only missed one game in his pro career but the latest injury is set to put him on the sidelines for a second this week.
When asked about a possible return date for the star quarterback, the Jacksonville head coach said, “Not necessarily a timeline on that.”
With the Jaguars’ bye week coming up, it will be interesting to see if the team decides to give Lawrence an additional break against the Detroit Lions next week.

Former New England Patriots QB Mac Jones will fill Lawrence’s shoes in the pocket. Earlier, coach Pederson showed faith in the 26-year-old saying, “he has been there and done it.”
“I’ve got a lot of confidence [in Jones]. He’s somebody that prepares extremely hard, extremely well. He’s a smart kid.
“You go back to even some of the preseason stuff and what he did then, as far as preparation and all that and how he played. He’s going to be fine.
“He has been a starter in this league. He’s done that. It’d be different probably if it was a rookie, a true rookie that was having to maybe play, and you’re trying to get that person ready.
“It does, for a coach, give you a little bit of peace of mind that this is a veteran player that has kind of been there and done it.”
Jones has played two games for Jacksonville this season with both stints resulting in losses. He has completed six of his nine passes for 28 yards, while also taking two sacks.
