As per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cowboys QB Dak Prescott’s NFL season might have come to an end already. Prescott suffered a partially torn hamstring injury in week 9 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. After medical evaluation, owner Jerry Jones also confirmed that the Cowboys QB will be placed on the injury reserve, meaning he will be out for at least 4 weeks.
But recent information has revealed that Dak Prescott’s season is as good as over as he might have to undergo surgery. It will take him around 4 months to fully recover, that means Prescott won’t be able to play for the rest of this season.
A season that started out with massive contract extensions for CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott turned into a nightmare for the Cowboys. The criticism of coach Mike McCarthy by owner Jerry Jones hinted that he is indeed on a hot seat. And now the season-ending injury to Dak Prescott dents the playoff hopes for Dallas even further.
The Cowboys are on a 3-game losing streak, with a regular season record of 3-5 through week 9. And to make matters worse tonight, the Cowboys are up against their NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are flying high with a 4-game win streak and are 6-2 through week 9.
With 9 games left at hand, Cooper Rush has replaced Dak Prescott as QB1. But can the Dallas Cowboys still redeem what is left of the season and make it to the postseason? Is Cooper Rush the change that the Cowboys need to revive their playoff hopes? Let’s find out.
The Cowboys fans would find a glimmer of hope and a sense of comfort in the fact that Cooper Rush has a winning record as a starting quarterback. In the 6 games where he started, Rush has a win-loss record of 5-1.
He has 1,786 passing yards with a 60 percent completion rate for 9 passing touchdowns. Declared the backup quarterback over Trey Lance, Cooper Rush might revive the Cowboys’ playoff hopes if they play their cards right.
The return of linebacker Micah Parsons after being sidelined for the last four games will come as a relief to the Cowboys. Paired with CeeDee Lamb and Dalvin Cook, the Cowboys will hope to pull a rabbit out of the hat in almost all of their remaining games.
The Eagles are on an absolute tear at the moment, thanks to Saquon Barkley putting up some numbers. And that brings us to another horrible mistake that the Cowboys made this season, i.e. not acquiring Saquon Barkley when he was available.
The New York Giants letting go of Saquon Barkley might have been one of the biggest mistakes a team made this season. But the Cowboys did no good either when they had the chance to land Barkley. Many ESPN analysts explicitly stated that the Cowboys did nothing. And now, that mistake might come back to haunt them.
Saquon Barkley has been on fire this season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles running back had a debut to remember when he scored 2 rushing and a receiving touchdown against the Packers. Since then, Barkley has 925 rushing yards, 146 receiving yards for 8 touchdowns (6 rushing and 2 receiving). He averages 5.9 yards per carry, which is also his career best average in the 8 seasons he has played.
The Cowboys would have had a fair shot at a playoff berth if the NFC East had no clear frontrunner. But sadly for Dallas, the Commanders are 7-2 and the Eagles hold on to the 2nd spot in the division with a 6-2 record through week 9.
The Cowboys have almost no hope of winning the division, unless they either win all their remaining or the Eagles and Commanders start losing hysterically. Mike McCarthy’s boys might have a chance at the wild-card spot, but the margin of error remains slimmer than ever.
