‘Who Is Going To Block This Front?’ – Analyst Ryan Clark Hyped on NFC East Team’s Elite Defensive Front

The Giants could need to rely heavily on their defense this season

The New York Giants began their mandatory minicamp recently, featuring a new look QB room as well as an updated defense. The Giants head into the upcoming season with Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback, and according to Giants’ reporter Jordan Raanan, Wilson took first-team reps.

New York also drafted Jaxon Dart in this year’s draft and has 10-year veteran Jameis Winston on the roster as well. But while the quarterback depth may undergo changes over the course of the season, it is the Giants’ defense that has caught the attention of experts.

ESPN’s Ryan Clark Has Reason to Believe In the Giants’ Defense

ESPN’s football analyst Ryan Clark was all praise for the Giants’ defense, especially up front,  where they have exceptional talent on deck. When asked about his thoughts on whether or not New York’s defense can hold the team afloat this season, Clark responded positively, with the primary focus being on 4 players making up a strong linebacker room.

“They sure can up front. Abdul Carter put on his story on Instagram the other day, a meeting at the quarterback with Kayvon Thibodeaux, Brian Burns, and himself, and you add Dexter Lawrence to that, who is one of the best interior defensive linemen in all of the NFL, and this front should be ferocious.”

Backing up his claims, Clark mentioned how this group of special players could be the strength of the team, and the Giants would rely on them to get after the quarterback and control the line of scrimmage with their physicality.

Even so, the former NFL safety is well aware of the depleted state the New York-based franchise is currently in, and acknowledges that they won’t be a contender, but they have the capacity to make things interesting this year.

“I think that’s what they’re going to lean on when you start talking about this defense, the ability to get after the quarterback on third down and sub packages, but also the ability to play the run with physicality and setting the tone at the line of scrimmage. I don’t necessarily think that this makes the Giants a contender, but who is going to want to block this front?”

As part of the NFC East, there is little doubt that the Giants are the worst team in their division at the moment. Defending Champions, Philadelphia Eagles, still maintain a strong roster and are a favorite to retain their crown, while the Commanders will look to build on their deep playoff run. The Cowboys are always in the postseason mix, so New York has its work cut out for them; that much is for sure.

I am a content writer for the NFL team, and joined The Playoffs after working with Sportskeeda and NFL Analysis as an NFL writer. After starting my professional career as a French-to-English translator, working as a content writer is a new adventure for me. I started out in the sports media field for two main reasons: my love for sports in general, especially the NFL, NBA, and Tennis, as well as my passion for writing. The best part of this job is that I get to write a variety of pieces with the freedom to explore content from various angles. It also enables me to stay up to date with the sporting world, which otherwise can be difficult to do in the day-to-day grind. In a world full of chaos, sports unite and entertain like nothing else!
