Brind'Amour becomes the fastest coach in NHL history to reach 300 career wins, solidifying his legendary status with the Carolina Hurricanes.
With the Carolina Hurricanes’ 5-2 victory against the New Jersey Devils Saturday night at Lenovo Center, Rod Brind’Amour became the quickest head coach to reach 300 wins in NHL history.
Brind’Amour, the 57th head coach to achieve this milestone, required only 488 games to secure his 300th victory, surpassing Bruce Boudreau, who established the record at 496 games in 2014 with the Anaheim Ducks. The Hurricanes head coach, now in his seventh season in Carolina, could have achieved the milestone slightly quicker, but he had to pause following consecutive losses surrounding the holiday break.
“I’ve had good teams, I guess, It’s the guys. Coaching is interesting. You get way too much credit when your team wins and you just get abused when it doesn’t and it’s like, ‘Wait a minute…’ It’s not quite how it really works out. It’s the group that you have. I’ve been blessed and we’ve talked about it a lot, I’ve got a real good group. Win or lose, you can pretty much count the times on your hand when it wasn’t a solid effort. They give you what they can every night and that’s something that I take the most pride in.” : Brind’Amour said when asked about the record.
Since taking charge in Carolina in 2018, Brind’Amour has guided his team to two Eastern Conference Finals and three consecutive division championships.
His intense approach to gameplay and total team commitment have made him a successful coach, earning him immense respect from fellow coaches in the league, many of whom have adopted the Hurricanes’ style for their teams.
The ex-captain and Stanley Cup winner possesses a total record of 300-143-45, translating to a 0.661 point percentage, ranking him second highest among coaches who have coached at least 300 games.
