Reports: Chiefs acquiring Titans’ star receiver DeAndre Hopkins in blockbuster trade

Natasha Bose

In a strategic move to address injuries, the Kansas City Chiefs bring in DeAndre Hopkins, adding a seasoned talent to their wide receiver lineup.

The Titans and Chiefs are close to finalizing a deal that would send wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to Kansas City, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

In exchange, the Titans are expected to receive a conditional fourth-round pick, with the trade likely wrapping up on Wednesday, per sources.

The Chiefs have been looking to strengthen their receiving corps since Rashee Rice went down with a right knee injury in Week 4, an injury that required surgery and ended his season.

On top of that, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown was sidelined with a shoulder injury during the preseason, and JuJu Smith-Schuster picked up a hamstring injury last week.

The Chiefs perfectly timed bringing in five-time Pro Bowler Hopkins amid wide receiver struggles

Hopkins was the most logical trade candidate for the Chiefs. A seasoned player with 12 years in the league, DeAndre is currently in the last year of a two-year contract he signed with the Titans back in July 2013. After tearing his MCL in the offseason, he managed to recover in time to play in the season opener.

So far this season, he’s made 15 catches for 173 yards and scored a touchdown in six games. The five-time Pro Bowler has also spent time playing for the Houston Texans and the Arizona Cardinals.

DeAndre Hopkins‘ arrival provides quarterback Patrick Mahomes with another weapon. Last week, Mahomes said he had “extreme confidence” in the Chiefs’ receivers, especially after the big trades of Davante Adams and Amari Cooper.

However, Kansas City’s two remaining healthy receivers, rookie Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson, have only tallied 22 catches between them as of Week 7.

Got into sports media the same way most people do: by (fortunate) accident. Started with SEO writing, took on a few sports gigs, and now here we are! I cover games, trades, player drama—whatever needs words.
Favorite part? The chaos. One day it's a blockbuster trade, the next it's a goat running onto the field. Never boring.
