Cooper Kupp Trade Rumors: 5 potential landing spots as Rams reportedly open to trading WR

Here are five teams that might be an ideal fit for the star wide receiver ahead of the NFL deadline

The NFL has already witnessed a couple of high-profile wide receiver trades as the 2024 deadline nears. Both Davante Adams and Amari Cooper have found new teams. Could another major move be on the horizon?

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp has been the center of trade talks ahead of Week 8, where the Rams face off against the Minnesota Vikings. Kupp is expected to return after an ankle injury that sidelined him since Week 2.

With the trade deadline just weeks away, his recovery might position him as a prime target for potential deals.

As reported by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Mike Silver, and Jourdan Rodrigue, the Rams have already reached out to “multiple teams” about a possible Kupp trade. They’re aiming to secure a second-round pick in exchange and are even open to covering part of his remaining 2024 salary to make the deal more appealing.

Kupp’s availability would likely attract significant attention, especially with several top receivers recently sidelined by season-ending injuries.

Which teams fit Kupp’s talents the best? Here are five likely destinations for the 31-year-old wide receiver, should the Rams decide to trade him, following their 2-4 start to the 2024 NFL season.

Top 5 potential teams for the Rams’ star WR

Detroit Lions

If the Rams decide not to push for a playoff spot, the chances of general manager Les Snead trading Kupp within the NFC could rise. Snead shares a history with Lions GM Brad Holmes, having worked together for years in Los Angeles and St. Louis.

The two also orchestrated the blockbuster 2021 trade that swapped Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff.

With Kupp already familiar with Goff, he’d be a significant boost to the Lions’ offensive arsenal. Detroit’s offense would become even harder to stop, as Kupp excels in the gritty aspects of the game. Depth at receiver could also be a concern for the Lions after Jameson Williams’ two-game suspension.

Fans likely wouldn’t mind giving up a second-round pick if it leads to the team hoisting the Lombardi trophy this season.

Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons could see some familiar faces when it comes to Cooper Kupp, as both head coach Raheem Morris and offensive coordinator Zac Robinson have worked with the Rams before.

Given that Kirk Cousins has had trouble navigating the pocket, the Falcons could really use Kupp’s quick ability to find open space and his talent for making things happen near the line of scrimmage.

Having someone with Kupp’s deep understanding of the game could also be a big plus for players like Drake London and Kyle Pitts.

Pittsburgh Steelers

With a 5-2 start, the Steelers are legitimate contenders in the AFC North, but their receiving corps could use a boost. Kupp would be a strong complement to George Pickens, giving Pittsburgh a well-rounded duo.

Together, they could offer a dynamic one-two punch similar to the physical style of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett during Russell Wilson’s Seattle years.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

After a tough loss to the Ravens, the Bucs are also dealing with significant injuries at wide receiver. Chris Godwin is likely out for the season with a dislocated ankle, and Mike Evans suffered a hamstring injury early in the game.

These two are Baker Mayfield’s primary targets, and their absence could cripple the Buccaneers’ passing game. With both receivers accounting for 46% of Tampa Bay’s receiving yards, replacing that production would be near impossible without trading for someone like Kupp.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs seem like an obvious fit for Kupp, especially after losing Rashee Rice for the season and with Hollywood Brown sidelined. JuJu Smith-Schuster is also dealing with a hamstring injury.

Kupp could be the consistent slot receiver Patrick Mahomes needs to solidify the Chiefs’ chances of a Super Bowl three-peat.

Rams’ Cooper Kupp ‘aware’ of trade rumors ahead of expected return

Rams receiver Cooper Kupp acknowledged he’s heard the trade rumors swirling around him as the NFL’s Nov. 5 trade deadline approaches but emphasized he’s focused on “being the best L.A. Ram” he can be.

When asked if the Rams had discussed the possibility of a trade with him or his representatives, Kupp responded, “Nothing really. No. It is that time of year. There’s going to be rumors and things that go around. I let that stuff, as much as I can, be in the background.”

“I’m aware of it, but at the end of the day, I mean, I’m going to be where my feet are,” Kupp added.
