Raven Bet Big on TE Mark Andrews – Is the Three-Year Extension a Steal or a Splash?

Eric Divakaran

The Baltimore Ravens made it official Wednesday. Franchise icon Mark Andrews isn’t going anywhere. The three-time Pro Bowler and the team agreed to a three-year, $39.3 million extension that includes $26 million guaranteed, removing the pending free agent from the open market and keeping one of Lamar Jackson’s favorite targets in purple and black.

Andrews leads the Ravens in career receiving yards 5,862, receptions 473, and total touchdowns 57 among tight ends, has had a great career in the NFL and is 30 years old.

General Manager Eric DeCosta Had High Praises for Mark Andrews

General manager Eric DeCosta didn’t mince words. “Mark is a Raven for life: a top-tier competitor and a pro-bowl tight end, and he’s also an important part of our Baltimore community.” With the tight end market continuing to climb and Andrews still producing at age 30, the Ravens chose certainty over the risk of losing their all-time great.

The question now is, does the price match the production for a contender built to win right now?

Is the Deal Worth It for Baltimore?

Mark Andrews signed a huge deal with the Ravens, but the extension does not exactly match the production from him this season. He has played in 12 games this season, but has put up career low numbers with only 332 yards on 37 receptions and 5 TDs.

Andrews is 71st in catches without an injury. He’s tied with 49ers’ TE George Kittle, who’s played four fewer games and Dolphins’ WR Malik Washington. He missed seven games in 2023 with an injury, only 55 catches in the 2024 season, and dropped the most important catch of the season last year against the Bills in the divisional round, sending his team home.

Andrews is definitely on the decline and the $26 million guarantee, might have been an overpay from Baltimore. While he was one of the best tight ends in the NFL, the deal might not be as worth it as the Ravens may think. Signing Andrews to another three-year extension may also hinder TE Isaiah Likely’s growth, who’s been waiting for his chance patiently.

I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
