Pete Carroll has moved on from his previous role for the Seattle Seahawks and is now the new head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders has moved on from their previous head coach, Antonio Pierce, and will now play under Carroll who’s been around the league for a more than two decades. Carroll is only the third coach in NFL history to win both, Superbowl and College football National Championship.
He certainly knows how to help his team win as a coach as Carroll has won 83.6% of his games coached in the NCAA. Meanwhile, he’s won 58% of his NFL regular season games.
Carroll has spent the majority of his time coaching the Seattle Seahawks. He had coached the Seahawks for 14 seasons straight, before going on a hiatus for a year and now returning as the head coach.
So this begs the question… Why did the Raiders pick Carroll as the head coach? Why not other candidates? There’s a lot more than it meets the eye when it comes to Carroll’s hiring. To give you viewers a hint, it has something to do with the G.O.A.T himself, Tom Brady. Let’s get deeper into this.
Well, Tom Brady, is the minority owner of the Raiders and if the Raiders were to listen to anyone, it would be him. It is believed that Brady, voiced out his opinion on who the Raiders should look to hire. In Brady’s belief, it seems it was Pete Carroll.
In Brady’s first off-season as a minority owner, he’s already making major moves. He has also helped in hiring John Spytek as the GM for the Raiders. Why? Brady and Spytek were both part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers team, back in 2020. Now, he’s got Pete Carroll to coach his team next season.
Both Brady and Carroll have championship level of experiences and the hire just makes perfect sense. Carroll is not just about winning championships, he is also elite in terms of player development, career revivals, getting the right players from free agency or the draft, you name it. Brady, who’s won the Superbowl 7 times, most definitely knows what he’s doing and the Raiders are in the right hands going forward.

As a head coach for the Jets, Carroll was 6-10 in the regular season which led to his firing immediately. He then switched to NCAA, to coach the USC, and found tremendous success. He coached USC from 2001-2009 and led them to a national championship. During his time with USC, he helped them win 97-19 games in total, dominating the PAC-10 conference
In 2010, Carroll was named the head coach for the Seattle Seahawks and won his first Superbowl in 2013. He was also listed in the NFL 2010s All-Decade team. After spending 14 seasons with the Seahawks, Carroll was moved from the head coaching position to an advisory role in 2023. After spending a year as a advisor, Carroll is now hired as a head coach, yet again.

Pete Carroll is 73 years of age and is still coaching in the NFL. After becoming the head coach for the Raiders, he is now the oldest coach in the NFL. Carroll brings in 50 plus years of coaching experience which will come in handy, especially for players like Brock Bowers. Bowers just finished his first season in the NFL and he looked like a potential superstar. Many think that he’s the best player from the 2024 NFL draft and rightfully so.
Carroll has the freedom to make moves in the off-season as the Raiders have $93 million of cap space. The Raiders will also get the 6th draft pick as they finished the season with a 4-13 record. It’ll be interesting to watch what coach Carroll will do with all that freedom.
