Patrick Mahomes is the talk of the town, yet again, as he listed in the injury report with ankle problems. He has been battling his injury for quite sometime now. Mahomes looked just fine when he went up against the Houston Texans last week but he may not have been a hundred percent. After the Chiefs secured the number seed in the AFC, Mahomes had a lot of time to rest but that may not have been enough.
The Chiefs have 4 players listed in the injury report compared to the Bills’ 11 players. Patrick Mahomes was seen on the list and it was a surprise to see his name there. After defeating the Texans, Mahomes and the Chiefs will now face the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship round. If the Chiefs are to lose Mahomes, their chances of making the Superbowl reduces drastically.
Let us look at if Mahomes will play in the AFC Conference championship game.
While Mahomes is listed on the injury report for the Chiefs, he has reportedly a full participant in practice. He was listed as having an ankle problem but Mahomes has practiced and looked healthy when he sat down for the press conference.
He first injured his ankle going against the Cleveland Browns in week 14 of the 2024-25 regular season and had exited midway through the game. Now there are some concerns going forward and even if he plays against the Bills, is he a 100 percent? Probably not. Despite him being listed, there has been no statement from Mahomes or the Chiefs on if they plan to play him on January 26th.

If Mahomes is to miss the AFC Championship round, he will be replaced by Carson Wentz. Wentz is serving as the backup quarterback to Mahomes and the Chiefs. If Mahomes is out, this will be a huge blow to Kansas. Why? The Chiefs are looking to three-peat and become the greatest dynasty ever. No historically great QB would want to miss that chance and certainly not Mahomes.
Nevertheless, all four of the Chiefs’ listed injured players have all completed their practice session and Mahomes will most likely play in the Conference championship round. If not, the Bills have to win the round and advance as they may never get a chance like this again. As for Carson Wentz, if he is to start over Mahomes, it will be the most important game he may ever play in his life! The stakes are high for both the teams going forward.

mma I cover the National Football League and things cannot get better than that. I always dreamed to play football or basketball professionally since I’m built like a Running Back. But now that I can’t, since I’m technically in the “Unc” age, I thought why not pick a career in sports industry? So here I am, doing what I love, and hoping that the Commanders win the Super Bowl. I give love to players when it’s due, but can be critical about their performances at the same time. Enough about me, now let my articles do all the talking.
