Anamika Shrivastava

Penguins’ forward Bryan Rust could rejoin the lineup in the upcoming matchup with the Capitals, boosting Pittsburgh's offense.

Bryan Rust might make his return for the Penguins in their game against the Washington Capitals on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET; HULU, ESPN+, SN, TVAS).

Rust participated in an optional morning skate on Thursday but did not play in the 5-1 defeat against the Carolina Hurricanes and has been out for five games due to a lower-body injury. Usually positioned on one of the top two lines, he has accumulated four points (three goals, one assist) over eight games this season.

“It’s always a good feeling when you’re able to kind of rejoin the team and get back into somewhat normal things, It’s been a lot quicker than I expected. I wasn’t as optimistic at first. … I think now they’ve done a really good job of getting me back into shape. Hopefully things keep going in the right direction.” : Rust said Wednesday.

Rust was originally categorized as week to week. He suffered an injury on Oct. 26 in the third period of a 4-3 defeat to the Vancouver Canucks, showing discomfort in his right leg after tussling with forward Nils Hoglander near the boards. The 32-year-old Rust has participated in eight matches this season for the Penguins. Rust, with three goals and one assist, was sidelined for the first two games of the season because of a lower-body injury.

Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
