Vancouver’s Brock Boeser faces an indefinite absence following an upper-body injury sustained during a 4-2 win over the Kings.
Brock Boeser is sidelined indefinitely for the Vancouver Canucks due to an upper-body injury sustained when Tanner Jeannot hit him during the first period of a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday.
Boeser, a forward, did not re-enter the match in Los Angeles and was absent from the morning skate Saturday before Vancouver’s game against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Arena, which ended in a 7-3 defeat.
Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin stated that Boeser is still under assessment and there is no revised timeline available.
“I talked to him briefly, Doesn’t feel great, but I wouldn’t say it’s horrible, so I think he’s indefinite right now. These things can change [in] a week or 24 hours. I don’t know.” : coach Rick Tocchet said of Boeser.
Jeannot received a match penalty for an illegal check to the head and was subsequently suspended for three games by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday.
Boeser tops the Canucks with six goals in 12 matches, and his 11 points rank second to defenseman Quinn Hughes (14). The 27-year-old was part of Vancouver’s top-line and main power-play team.
Boeser achieved NHL career bests with 40 goals and 73 points over 81 games last season. He has accumulated 395 points (185 goals, 210 assists) in 491 games, all with the Canucks (7-2-3), who picked him in the first round (No. 23) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
Los Angeles Kings forward Tanner Jeannot has been suspended for three games without pay for an illegal check to the head of Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser during NHL Game No. 218 in Los Angeles on Thursday, Nov. 7, as announced by the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.
‘‘It’s a dangerous play, and hopefully Brock is going to be OK,” Tocchet said.
The incident occurred at 10:36 in the first period, resulting in Jeannot receiving a match penalty.
In line with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Jeannot will forfeit $41,640.63 based on his average annual salary, with the funds directed to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
