Mahomes seemed to suffer a non-contact injury after completing a 7-yard touchdown pass to Samaje Perine, with 14:14 left in the fourth quarter.
On third-and-goal, Mahomes rolled to his right when his leg appeared to give out in a non-contact move. He “shot-put” the ball over Lavonte David to running back Samaje Perine, completing the 7-yard touchdown. Right after, Mahomes stepped awkwardly, prompting trainers to assist him off the field.
The touchdown tied the game at 17-17 and was Mahomes’ second score of the night. He left with stats showing 23 completions on 29 attempts, totaling 189 yards and two touchdowns.

No Tampa Bay defenders made contact with Mahomes during the play.
Afterward, Mahomes jogged along the sideline to the cheers of Arrowhead Stadium fans. Chiefs trainers informed ESPN’s Lisa Salters that he was experiencing ankle pain.
The injury didn’t slow him down in the next series. Mahomes led a 15-play, 78-yard drive that ended in a go-ahead touchdown, putting Kansas City up 24-17 with just 4:17 left in the fourth quarter.
The drive wrapped up with a 5-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins, marking Mahomes’ third touchdown pass of the game and his second to Hopkins. In overtime, Mahomes pushed through with a 10-play, 70-yard drive, as the Chiefs secured the game-winning touchdown.

After the game, Mahomes mentioned he’d rolled the same ankle he’d previously injured, but he assured that with treatment, he’d be ready for Week 10 against the Broncos.
Playing on Monday gives the Chiefs one less day of rest than usual. Denver will be looking for a big win to stay in the playoff chase, making it a challenging matchup.
Kansas City’s undefeated record is intact, though Mahomes’ injury briefly worried fans. If he faces a strong pass rush next week, there could be a risk of further injury.
The Chiefs’ offensive line, particularly left tackle Wanya Morris, struggled during the game, which may press GM Brett Veach to consider reinforcements ahead of the trade deadline.
Keeping Mahomes safe is paramount. While he’s battled through injuries before, the risk of putting him in harm’s way is something the Chiefs want to avoid.
Per Lisa Salters, it’s an ankle injury. And Mahomes will return. https://t.co/Mm4gIMXXDb

While Wentz may not match Mahomes’ skill level, he could still offer a solid baseline for the Chiefs. With Kansas City’s offensive firepower, Wentz might even be worth stashing on your fantasy roster.

Favorite part? The chaos. One day it’s a blockbuster trade, the next it’s a goat running onto the field. Never boring.
