Winner to face Norrie or Comesana in Round-3.
After a convincing performance in his opening encounter, 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic is set to face another American in the US Open 2025 Round of 64. On this occasion, it will be qualifier Zachary Svajda who will aim to make the Serb book an early flight back. The odds are seemingly stacked heavily in Djokovic’s favour. Or are they? Let’s take a look, with the help of BetMGM.
Djokovic produced an array of shot-making to down teenage southpaw Learner Tien in the opening round. It has been a topsy-turvy season for the 38-year-old – one that has brought about rather turbulent moments. Despite losing in the semifinal stage at all the majors, Djokovic managed to capture his elusive 100th tour-level trophy at the Geneva Open. Playing his first hard court tournament since reaching the Miami Open final in March, the former World No. 1 has made it clear that Grand Slams are his priority. Djokovic has a 27-9 win-loss ratio in 2025.

A supremely talented 22-year-old who came through qualifying at the 2025 US Open, Svajda will play the biggest match of his life on Wednesday. Currently ranked No. 145 in the world, Flushing Meadows remains the only major where he has entered the main draw; and he has done it twice (2021 and 2025). Coming into this event, Svajda had a miserly 1-2 record when it came to main draw matches on tour this year. However, he is yet to drop a set across four successes so far. Considering the American’s 10-6 hard court record and 75% success rate on serve, Djokovic certainly won’t be taking this clash lightly.

The head-to-head record between Novak Djokovic and Zachary Svajda is 0-0. They will contest their first duel on tour at the US Open 2025.
| Novak Djokovic | Category | Zachary Svajda |
| 7 | Current Ranking | 145 |
| 1151-231 | Career W-L Record | 7-18 |
| 27-9 | YTD W-L Record | 1-2 |
| 100 | Career Titles | 0 |
| 1 | YTD Titles | 0 |
| 24 | Grand Slams | 0 |
Owing to the lack of firepower in the groundstrokes of his opponents thus far, Svajda resorted to high net clearance shots. He adopted a deep court position, before easing into the rallies with some deep baseline attacks. However, Djokovic is a master at understanding opposition tactics and adjusting his game accordingly. He will look to keep the rally length slightly longer initially, before outhitting Svajda as the match goes on.
Prediction: Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
While Djokovic is an outright favourite in this Round of 64 match-up, underdog Svajda will not be all too upset about his 15/2 odds. It gives him the perfect opportunity to prove some critics wrong, whilst still understanding that he has been given some rope to hang on to. According to the money line, Djokovic’s chances of progressing to Round-3 stand at 93% at the moment (as per BetMGM):
