NFL Analyst Reveals What Travis Hunter Could Bring to the Patriots’ Offense

By now, everybody knows who Travis Hunter is or they’ll soon know as the NFL draft approaches nearer, with each passing day. Hunter is one of the standouts in the 2025 NFL draft class, particularly because of his rare two-way talent as a cornerback and as a wide receiver. The five-star recruit shocked the entire football world when he decided to join Jackson State in 2021, becoming the first top prospect to sign with an HBCU, mentored by Deion Sanders.

Following Sanders to Colorado in 2023, Hunter shined playing for Sanders and the rest of the crew. He had a historic season in 2024 with the Buffaloes and he went on to win the Heisman trophy, becoming the first player to claim both the Chuck Bednarik (top defender) award and Fred Biletnikoff (top receiver) award. Hunter played a remarkable 1443 snaps in the 2024 season and over 2500 snaps in the 2023 and 2024 seasons combined. His stats looked ridiculous last season as he finished with 96 catches, 1258 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns.

The 21 year old is one of the most decorated and highly anticipated players in the 2025 NFL draft class, and the New England Patriots could draft him as the 4th pick according to various draft projections.

Matt Miller Had High Praises for Hunter

NFL Analyst Matt Miller thinks that Hunter could be Odell Beckham Jr. on offense and Denzel Ward on defense. While many analysts showed concern for Hunter wanting to play both sides of the field in the NFL, Miller seems unbothered. Here is what he had to say;

“They (Patriots) have some young receivers now, they have some veterans, but I think this is an ideal Travis Hunter team. He could play some wide receiver, he could play some corner. They do have need in both spots.” Miller continued, “I love Christian Gonzales and he’s one of the best in the game but they had that need for another corner. I don’t know that Vrabel could look at a football player like Travis Hunter and say ‘Nah.’ I know they need a left tackle but how can you say no to someone who loves football as much as Travis Hunter does. The football IQ that Travis Hunter has, and oh by the way, has some of the best instincts and reaction for ball skill we’ve seen coming out of the college game in a long time.”

“I wrote this today. He could be Odell Beckham Jr. on offense and Denzel Ward on defense. He’s that good of a player. If you the Patriots, you have need for both of those spots.”

Hunter is an extremely talented player and one of highly touted prospects coming into the NFL. However, the statement that Miller made could be a stretch. We have no sample size of Hunter playing in the NFL yet, so it’s hard to say what kind of a player he could emerge as. However, what we do know is that the Patriots have needs in both the spots that Hunter plays in and he could be the perfect fit for the team.
