The 2025-26 NFL season was a huge disappointment for the Miami Dolphins. After missing the playoffs the previous season, the Dolphins would have wanted to start things off on the right note.
Unfortunately, though, their season started with 3 losses on the trot, and they fell to a 2-7 record before a mid-season run of 4 consecutive wins. Eventually, though, the Dolphins finished the season with a 7-10 record and missed the postseason for the second year running.
Losing wide receiver Tyreek Hill for the rest of the season after a Week 4 ACL injury was definitely a massive blow. That being said, Miami struggled to perform on both sides of the ball, ranking near the bottom of the league in several key metrics such as points scored, scoring defense, net yardage, and more.
In the aftermath of the season, the Dolphins decided to part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel and have hired former Packers’ defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Additionally, the Dolphins have also released Tyreek Hill, so plenty of changes have already taken place at the start of the offseason.
After finishing the previous season with just 7 wins and 10 losses, the Miami Dolphins’ Over/Under for total number of wins in the upcoming 2026-27 NFL season is set to 4.5, as per the odds via DraftKings.
The table below shows the Over/Under for the Dolphins’ total wins in the upcoming regular season.
| Miami Dolphins 2026-27 regular season wins | |
|---|---|
| Over 4.5 | -110 |
| Under 4.5 | -110 |

During the 2025-26 season, the Miami Dolphins struggled tremendously both on offense and on defense. Putting up just about 20 points per game, the Dolphins ranked 25th in the league. On the other hand, they ranked 24th in scoring defense, allowing nearly 25 points per game.
The hiring of Haffley as the new head coach is a direct implication of improving the defense. While with the Packers as the defensive coordinator, the 46-year-old helped Green Bay rank inside the top ten in scoring defense and yards allowed. Haffley has plenty of experience coaching defensive backs, which should come in handy as Miami is in dire need of help at secondary.
Coming to the Over/Under of 4.5 total wins, it is quite low for a team that finished with 7 wins last season. However, the Dolphins will have the second-toughest schedule in the 2026-27 NFL season. Adding to that, the roster needs quite an overhaul, meaning Miami has its work cut out for the upcoming season.
Below is the list of opponents the Dolphins will be facing in the 2026-27 season.
To start off, the Dolphins will be up against two tough opponents within the division, as the Bills and the Patriots both made the playoffs last year. That means those are 4 games against postseason teams from the previous season.
Other teams that made the playoffs last season include the Broncos, Chargers, Rams, Bears, Packers, and the 49ers, meaning a total of 10 games against top teams. Furthermore, Miami could also be tested against opponents like the Chiefs, Bengals, and Colts.
Early prediction: Dolphins 2026-27 regular season record: 4-13

Currently, the Miami Dolphins roster has several players recovering from injuries. Although none of the injuries seem to be a major concern by the time the new season commences.
Key players such as wide receivers Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington, and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick are all questionable for training camp, but are expected to recover anytime between 5 and 10 weeks.
Similarly, many other players are dealing with injuries and are questionable for training camp, but everyone should be ready to go before the start of the new season in September.
The roster is a major concern for the Dolphins, and they could be targeting a significant overhaul this offseason. One of the main factors to consider is the future of signal caller Tua Tagovailoa, whose time in South Florida hasn’t lived up to expectations.
Tagovailoa had a torrid 2025 with just 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, leading to him being benched towards the end of the regular season. Unfortunately, though, his massive contract will result in over $90 million of dead cap if released.
Turning our attention to the playmakers on offense, the Dolphins will need to identify an able replacement for Tyreek Hill. While Jaylen Waddle could take on that role, adding another reliable pass-catcher would be ideal, especially considering their tight end room is also less than ideal.
On defense, the two main areas of concern are the pass rush and the secondary. Last season was a huge letdown by the edge rushers, as Chop Robinson has yet to live up to his first-round draft billing. Bradley Chubb, who had a decent season, is most likely a cut candidate, and Jaelen Philips was traded midseason, which means Miami needs to bolster its pass rush.
The Miami Dolphins have a total of 8 draft picks in the upcoming 2026 NFL draft. Based on their record from last season, their first-round draft selection is at number 11 overall, which is quite a good position to be in.
Additionally, they hold the number 43 overall pick from round 2 and then have 3 picks in the third round, giving them a total of 5 selections inside the top 100. While there is a need on both sides of the ball, the Dolphins should look to prioritize the defense first up. Bolstering the edge and the secondary should be their top priority, following which they can look to draft a tight end or a receiver.
With plenty of picks in the first three rounds, if Miami drafts well, there is a good possibility that their total number of wins may increase by a game or two. But, with the tough schedule and the rebuilding phase of the team, the Dolphins may be looking at a similar record as their 2025 season.
