Defenseman Mike Reilly prioritizes health with upcoming heart procedure; Islanders offer full support.
The New York Islanders announced on Monday that veteran defenseman Mike Reilly will undergo a heart procedure on Tuesday, putting him out of the lineup indefinitely.
Reilly was unaware of his heart condition until it was detected while being tested for a concussion he got during a 4-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Nov. 1.
“It was picked up through the different echocardiograms that you do for different reasons that you go through with any post-concussion situation, It’s probably a blessing in disguise of what transpired. They detected this, something that you’re sometimes born with but never knew.”: Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello said of the heart problem.

Due to the concussion, he was placed on injured reserve and has sat out the last seven games for New York. Lamoriello stated that it might take “multiple months” for Reilly to return to the ice.
“[His quality of life will be] 100 percent, and he will be able to play once this procedure is done, It takes quite a bit of time.” : Lamoriello said
The team has announced that he is no longer suffering from the concussion. Reilly, age 31, has failed to tally any points in 11 matches so far this season for the New York team. He made three successful hits and successfully blocked four shots.

nhl I’ve always loved writing and storytelling, and hockey gives me a perfect stage for endless stories to tell. Whether it’s breaking down a game, analyzing a big trade, or capturing the emotions on the ice, I bring the NHL to life through words. So what’s the best part you ask? Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
