The Saints will have a pretty easy schedule in the 2026-27 season, but questions over roster still remain
It was another horrendous season for the New Orleans Saints, who finished last in the NFC South for the second year running. After a 5-12 record in the 2024-25 season, the Saints could better themselves by just one win, finishing the most recently concluded season with a 6-11 record.
New Orleans started the season with a 4-game losing streak and went on another 4-game losing streak after just one win in Week 5 against the Giants. By the time their bye week came in Week 11, New Orleans had slumped to 2-8 with no real chance of making the postseason.
During the offseason, the Saints made a coaching change, bringing in Kellen Moore as their new head coach. However, with Derek Carr deciding to retire abruptly, the quarterback room consisted of Spencer Rattler and the rookie Tyler Shough.
While the passing game was much better than the run game, the Saints lacked any offensive threat in terms of scoring, putting up just 18 points per game to finish in the bottom 5 of the league.
In the 2026-27 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints will play 9 home games and 8 away games as the NFC teams all have the advantage of the additional home game this time. As is the standard each season, the Saints will play 6 games against their division rivals, the Panthers, Falcons, and the Buccaneers.
Apart from those 6 games, New Orleans will play 4 games each against one NFC division and one AFC division. This year, the NFC South teams will face the NFC North and the AFC North teams.
Additionally, since the Saints finished last in their division last season, they will play their remaining three games against the last-place teams from the NFC East, NFC West, and the AFC West.

Understanding how to bet on NFL games is crucial for maximizing the value of our expert picks and making informed wagers each week.
For the upcoming season, the New Orleans Saints are blessed with one of the easiest strength of schedules according to the teams they will play and how those teams fared in the 2025-26 season. Sources indicate their schedule at (.434) for the upcoming season, placing the Saints in the 31st spot, just ahead of the last-placed Browns.
One of the plus points for the Saints heading into the new season is the fact that they will face only 4 opponents that made the postseason from the previous season. These teams include the Panthers, Packers, Steelers, and the Bears.
That being said, they could face tricky matchups against the likes of the Ravens, Bengals, Lions, and division rivals, the Buccaneers. However, multiple games against teams like the Cardinals, Browns, Giants, and Raiders can be seen as winnable, while divisional games are generally easier to prepare for and provide a better chance at winning.
For the Saints, the end of last season was not all bad. They went on a small 4-game win streak just before losing the final matchup of the season, but showed quite a bit of improvement. Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough settled in quite well after his initial first 6 games, which also coincided with the Saints’ 4-game win streak.
In spite of the fact that all three of the other teams from the NFC South finished 8-9, the Panthers and the Falcons seem much closer to the Saints, and these matchups could be very interesting in the upcoming season.
Along with that, New Orleans’ favorable schedule should also help them stack more wins, and they could challenge for a playoff spot. All the same, this is still one of the weakest divisions in the league, and the Saints may find themselves out of the postseason for the third straight year.
Our Prediction: Saints to miss the playoffs in the 2026-27 NFL season.
According to the latest Super Bowl odds on FanDuel, the New Orleans Saints have (+15000) odds to win Super Bowl 61 next season. These odds are one of the worst in the league, and the Saints currently sit 28th in the NFL in terms of the best chance to win a Super Bowl.
Realistically speaking, the Saints are a rebuilding team and will begin just their second season under head coach Kellen Moore. They are quite far away from a run to a Super Bowl, as the roster needs several changes to be competitive with the top teams in the league.

Within the Conference, the Saints have (+7500) odds to win the NFC, as per FanDuel. New Orleans is a long way away from challenging for the NFC Conference Championship. As a matter of fact, these odds reflect that they are only ahead of the Cardinals within the conference.
Similar to the Saints’ chances at a Super Bowl, their chances of winning the conference are equally low. Looking at the current picture in the NFC, teams such as the Seahawks, Rams, Eagles, and others have a much more balanced roster, stronger offensive and defensive play, and follow a structure that has been in place for more than a year.
The Saints’ odds to win the NFC South are set at (+440), as per FanDuel. Despite the Panthers winning the division last season, they currently have the worst odds in the division, with the Saints one place above them. The Buccaneers and the Falcons, respectively, are the top two teams within the NFC South, according to FanDuel’s odds.
The NFC South teams are close to each other in terms of their talent, but the main issue at hand is that they are quite far away from the level of the top teams in the conference. Thus, the last time two teams from the division qualified for the playoffs was in the 2020 season. Since then, only the division winners have made it to the postseason, and that drastically reduces the Saints’ chances once again.
New Orleans needs to continue rebuilding, and the best place to start is the upcoming draft. The Saints have plenty of positions that need help, but the most important thing is to draft playmakers to help quarterback Tyler Shough on offense. The young, second-year signal caller will need all the help he can get, especially in the form of a running back who can carry some of the load.
