Chaz Lanier
Chaz Harrison Lanier, born on December 19, 2001, in Nashville, Tennessee, is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 205 pounds, Lanier primarily plays as a shooting guard. He is known for his unwavering determination, consistent performance, and multifaceted skills, which have significantly shaped his promising career. Lanier’s basketball journey began at The Ensworth School in Nashville, Tennessee. After a successful high school career, he committed to the University of North Florida to play for the North Florida Ospreys. During his first three seasons with the Ospreys (2020-2023), he primarily played in a reserve role. However, his performance and efficiency steadily improved, with his field goal percentage increasing from .454 in 2022-23 to .510 in 2023-24, and his three-point percentage rising from .391 to .440 in the same period. For the 2024-2025 season, Lanier transferred to the University of Tennessee to play for the Tennessee Volunteers. This move further highlighted his capabilities, as he averaged 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game at Tennessee. During his time with the Volunteers, he set a new record for most three-pointers in a single season, with 123, earning him the reputation of a “certified shooter.” His exceptional performance at Tennessee led to numerous honors in 2025, including the Jerry West Award, SEC Newcomer of the Year, First-team All-SEC, and Third-team All-American – NABC and SN. He was also recognized with First-team All-ASUN honors in 2024 while at North Florida. Chaz Lanier declared for the NBA Draft and was subsequently selected by the Detroit Pistons in the second round, as the 37th overall pick, in the 2025 NBA Draft. He joined the Pistons for the 2025-present season, wearing jersey number 20. Although considered an older senior player, turning 24 in December of his rookie season, his strong physical frame, physicality, and clutch play have drawn comparisons to players like Chris Duarte and Kent Bazemore. He measured 6-foot-3.5 barefoot with an 8-foot-6 reach and a 6-foot-9 wing-span at the 2024 NBA G-League Combine, further underscoring his physical readiness for the professional league.
