Minnesota Wild Ryan Hartman Facing In-Person Hearing with NHL Player Safety

Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman to attend in-person hearing over actions warranting supplemental discipline during recent game.

Minnesota Wild Ryan Hartman Facing an In-Person Hearing with NHL Player Safety Forward Ryan Hartman is set to have an in-person hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety after being ejected in a 6-0 loss to the Senators on Saturday night. The ejection came after Hartman was penalized for driving Ottawa star Tim Stützle’s head into the ice, an act deemed intent to injure. The incident left Stützle with a cut on his forehead and without his helmet. With this hearing, Hartman could face a suspension of more than five games.

The altercation happened late in the second period, just 16 seconds before intermission. Hartman received a match penalty for roughing and intent to injure, which led to a five-minute major power play for the Senators. Ottawa capitalized with three goals, two involving Stützle, who recorded assists.

Earlier in the game, the two had already clashed when Stützle was penalized for slashing, while Hartman received a double minor for roughing and embellishment. Hartman ended the night with 19 penalty minutes, his second misconduct penalty this season after a previous incident in December against the Panthers.

It’s been a frustrating season for Hartman, who’s been relegated to a bottom-six role due to Marco Rossi’s rise as Minnesota’s top center. His production has suffered, with just 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists) in 48 games, his lowest output since joining the Wild. His average ice time has also dipped to 14:45 per game, the lowest since his first year in Minnesota, and he carries a team-worst minus-eight rating.

Hartman’s potential suspension comes at a tough time for the Wild, who are already missing key players. Marcus Johansson is out indefinitely with a concussion, and Kirill Kaprizov remains sidelined until at least the end of the month following lower-body surgery. Losing Hartman will further stretch an already thin forward group.
