Stars Activate Mason Marchment From Injured Reserve

Dallas Stars Boost Roster with Mason Marchment's Return Ahead of Key Matchups

The Dallas Stars announced Sunday that winger Mason Marchment has been activated from injured reserve. To make room on the roster, they sent forward Kyle McDonald and defenseman Christian Kyrou back to AHL Texas, leaving one roster spot open.

Marchment, 29, will play tonight for the first time in over a month. He’s been sidelined since December 27 after taking a puck to the face during a game against the Wild, which required surgery and kept him out of the last 17 games.

Before his injury, Marchment was having an outstanding season. In 33 games, he tallied 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points, ranking fifth on the team in points per game (0.82). He’s on pace for his best season as a Star and his best since 2021-22 with the Panthers, where he recorded 47 points in 54 games and earned an 18th-place finish in Selke Trophy voting.

Now in the third year of his four-year, $18 million contract with Dallas, Marchment has accumulated 111 points in 182 games as a Star, placing him ninth in team scoring since joining and third in hits (240). His current 15% shooting percentage is a career high, but it’s not out of character, as he’s posted similar numbers in past seasons. He’s also excelled in puck possession this year, boasting a 55.5% Corsi rating at even strength, second only to Mavrik Bourque on the team.

The Stars’ offense has been clicking even without Marchment, ranking fifth in the league with 3.29 goals per game during his absence. His return adds even more firepower, especially with Mikael Granlund set to debut after being acquired from the Sharks. Together, they’re expected to strengthen an already deep Dallas offense.

Meanwhile, McDonald and Kyrou, called up yesterday for salary cap maneuvering, head back to the AHL. They weren’t expected to play, as their temporary recall was part of the team’s long-term injured reserve management after moving Tyler Seguin and Nils Lundkvist to LTIR, with Lundkvist ruled out for the rest of the season.

I’ve always loved writing and storytelling, and hockey gives me a perfect stage for endless stories to tell. Whether it’s breaking down a game, analyzing a big trade, or capturing the emotions on the ice, I bring the NHL to life through words. So what’s the best part you ask? Watching the action unfold and turning it into something fans can connect with. To my readers: Hockey is more than just a game—it’s the highs, the heartbreaks, and the moments that make us jump off our seats. So, keep cheering, keep debating, and never stop loving the madness of the sport!
