On Monday, 03/10, the Miami Heat (29-34) will host the Charlotte Hornets (15-48) in an Eastern Conference Regular-Season match-up. The Heat have slipped to the 9th spot, whereas the Hornets have been tottering at the 14th spot for a long time. Will the Hornets be able to stitch together yet another upset here? Read about the preview, total predictions, and player props here.
Heat: Fading away fast
The Miami Heat will come into this game after a 5-point loss against the Chicago Bulls as they coughed up a 17-point lead. It was their third straight loss and fourth defeat in five matches. All their losses have been within 5 points, indicating a lack of closers in the squad. They have been a decent defensive squad but lack the offensive firepower, with only Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo being their consistent offensive options. Andrew Wiggins’ return has bolstered their scoring, but they need more from their role players consistently. The Heat look directionless as of now, and from being a play-in tournament favorite, they risk losing out on a playoffs spot
Expected Starting Lineup
PG: Tyler Herro | PG/SG: Davion Mitchell | SF: Andrew Wiggins | PF/C: Bam Adebayo | C: Kel’el Ware
Key Injuries/Updates: Nikola Jovic and Dru Smith are likely OUT FOR THE SEASON. Alec Burks may also MISS the game.
Hornets: Wins have been far and few
The Hornets enter the game after an unlikely 3-point win against the Brooklyn Nets as Miles Bridges produced 26 points. The win broke a 9-game losing streak, helping them avoid their second 10-game losing streak of the season. Charlotte has not won more than one game in a row since the third week of January, but their fans have become used to that by now. Miles Bridges has been incredible scoring-wise, but LaMelo Ball has been inconsistent since February, further denting an already struggling offense. Their defense has been respectable, but the lack of offensive firepower has rendered them one of the most hapless squads.
Expected Starting Lineup
PG: LaMelo Ball | SG: Josh Green | SG/SF: Nick Green | SF/PF: Miles Bridges | C: Mark Williams
Key Injuries/Updates: No injury to report thus far.
The Heat has not scored over 109 points in four straight games, meanwhile, the Hornets have struggled to even get close to that mark in multiple instances. Apart from that, the Heat usually keeps opponents under 115, while the Hornets’ defense has been inconsistent but has the potential to contain teams under 110. Overall, there is a high chance that this can be a low-scoring game. The Total can be below 215 here.
Projected Predictions:
Tyler Herro to score over 24.5 points: The Heat guard hasn’t scored more than 22 points in four straight games. However, I expect him to cross his season average of 23.8 PPG.
Kel’el Ware to claps over 10.5 rebounds: The Heat center has gobbled up 10 rebounds per game in the last four games. I expect him to cross the mark since there can be a ton of missed shots by Charlotte.
Miles Bridges to be kept under 20.5 points: The Hornets forward has scored 23 or more in four straight games, including two 30+ points performances. I expect the Heat defenders to keep him under 20.
Nick Smith Jr. to score under 9.5 points: The Hornets’ starting guard has tallied 9.5 PPG in March thus far. However, I believe he will be held below his month’s average score.
The Heat is struggling to finish games, and their offense has been great in parts but inconsistent as a whole. Bam Adebayo has done a great job of providing them with the scoring punch and will be key here. Meanwhile, the Hornets have more problems than one can count on their finger and are in a much worse position than the Heat. At any rate, I favor the Heat to win by at least 7 points.
Safe Spread Pick: Heat -10.5 for +100 at BetMGM
