Is Max Verstappen going to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans? Former F1 driver and Le Mans winner gives his take
Sebastian Buemi is a member of the Red Bull development program. He previously drove in Formula 1 for Toro Rosso. Buemi is currently competing in the World Endurance Championship. He is a four-time Le Mans winner in the 24 Hours category. Buemi is interested in the one of the current Red Bull champions.
Max Verstappen was able to claim the FIA platinum license some time ago. Verstappen is a star in Formula 1 series. However, the Dutch champion expresses his indication to join other forms of racing too. The 24 Hours of Le Mans in particular is his ambition. Max Verstappen’s actions and his interest in racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans has prompted Buemi to predict his arrival to the series. Verstappen’s current schedule conflicts with his ideas to race in other disciplines.
Sebastian Buemi is an acquaintance of Max Verstappen. He could not make an impact in Formula 1 but he was incredibly successful in Le Mans. Buemi is sure that Max Verstappen wants to compete in the fabled racing series. Formula 1 drivers like Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso have also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Although, Buemi has pointed out key issues for the Dutchman. The Balance of Power in a Le Mans car adjusted according to three drivers. Max Verstappen’s weight hinders him from competing equally as the other talents in the series. Although, Buemi is confident that Verstappen would make amends to his weight before trying to compete in Le Mans.

“It’s not ideal yet. Obviously, if you are heavy, it’s still a bit of an issue. But that was something he wanted to be clear and amended before he would take part. But I’m sure, Formula 1 is extremely heavy. It’s a heavy schedule. It’s very difficult to commit to do Le Mans. But I know it’s just a matter of time until he actually does it.”
Racing in both Formula 1 and Le Mans is an impossible task. The two races are wildly separate in their nature and the type of racing experience they have. The exhaustion and distraction from both events would cause chaos for the driver. Sebastian Buemi highlights the fact that, a driver can only focus on winning one event without issues.
Red Bull Racing are supportive of Max Verstappen. But, the team has made it clear that Formula 1 is the first priority. They won’t allow Verstappen to miss a race or drop his performance while trying to compete in other events.
I work as a Writer at The Playoffs specialising in Formula 1 and Motorsports. I got into online journalism a couple of years ago. I used to be an intern for a website managing their Formula 1 content and then I served an entire year as a contractual writer.
Read moreFor me, online journalism was not something I expected. I am a Mechanical Engineer aiming to join Formula 1. At the same time, I am a poet, writer and my university's Literary Club Lead. One day the dots connected together and I realised I could use my writing skills to convey my passion for Motorsports.
The biggest aspects I love about my role are- Scuderia Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel. When I am not fawning over them I like to convey my opinions to the public, in a manner which helps them gain a new point of view. I love helping people explore new ideas about Motorsports and obviously get recognised as a writer all over the world.
