Max Verstappen’s Classy Response to His Crash with Kimi Antonelli!

Rohan Singh

Max Verstappen debriefs the media about his crash at the Austrian GP

The 2025 Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix was Max Verstappen’s worst race of the 2025 season. His team was bringing in new upgrades in hopes of giving him better chances in the driver’s championship. The Red Bull Ring is one of the best tracks for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has won in Austria five times in his career. His weekend was already up to a difficult start with a P7 finish in qualifying session.

As soon as the race started, Verstappen made up positions and was looking forward to challenge the frontrunners. He was able to create pressure on the second row going into turn 3. However, that’s where his race came to an unfortunate halt. While Verstappen was driving out of turn 3, Kimi Antonelli struck him rear axle from behind. Antonelli ended up ending both their races losing control going into Turn-3.

Max Verstappen Calls Antonelli’s Crash a Genuine Mistake

Max Verstappen’s race ended due to someone else’s mistake. Initially, he was frustrated over the radio. Kimi Antonelli did not take any chances and went forward to apologise to him as soon as he could. Verstappen was seen consoling the young Italian on track. The two drivers made amends and the crash did not cause any big repercussions between them.

Talking about his unlucky DNF, Max Verstappen took the blame off of Kimi Antonelli in front of the media.

“Unlucky, I guess. It is what it is. I spoke quickly to Kimi, he came with me to the hospitality. I think every driver has made a mistake like that. No one does that on purpose as well so for me, that’s not a big deal.”

Max Verstappen’s Austrian Grand Prix weekend was a complete disaster. The four-time champion ran out of luck on many fronts. Earlier on, his final lap was ruined in Q3 due to a yellow flag. Verstappen’s DNFed his car for the first time since 2024 Australian Grand Prix. Red Bull Racing could not claim any points from the weekend. It seems like their upgrades washed down the drain at their home race.

The only positive looking forward to the British Grand Prix is that Max Verstappen has lost two penalty points from his super license. He is not going to face the threat of a race ban anytime soon.
