Manchester City have sought to clarify their position regarding ongoing transfer speculation linking Ederson with a potential exit and Gianluigi Donnarumma with a possible arrival. Despite persistent reports in France and Italy suggesting that PSG’s Donnarumma could be lined up as a replacement, City remain committed to keeping their Brazilian No. 1 for the new campaign.

The 31-year-old has been central to Pep Guardiola’s success at the Etihad, lifting six Premier League titles, the Champions League, and a host of domestic trophies since arriving from Benfica. His role as a sweeper-keeper, combined with his calm distribution under pressure, continues to make him one of the most influential players in the squad. While Galatasaray are understood to have tested City’s resolve with a €10 million approach, sources close to the club indicate that such a figure falls well below expectations.
City’s goalkeeping department has already undergone significant reshuffling this summer. James Trafford returned from Burnley in a £31m deal, positioning him as a long-term successor once Ederson’s contract expires in 2026. Meanwhile, Stefan Ortega’s future remains unresolved, though the German remains part of the rotation for now.
Reports have also indicated that Donnarumma has agreed personal terms with City, which could facilitate a future move if circumstances change. However, for the moment, Guardiola expects to retain Ederson for the 2025/26 season, while Trafford continues his development as the heir to the No. 1 spot.

City officials have further stressed that no formal offers for Ederson have been received and that they have not entered negotiations with any club. Their intention remains to start the new season with stability between the posts, with Ederson leading, Trafford developing, and Marcus Bettinelli providing depth as third-choice.
The Turkish giants are determined to continue their pursuit of Ederson, viewing him as a marquee addition to bolster their squad. Should City soften their stance, Donnarumma is seen as the primary candidate to step in. But as things stand, the reigning Premier League champions are not ready to part with a goalkeeper who has defined their era of dominance.
