Luis Suarez extends his Inter Miami contract with new deal

Suarez joined the Florida-based club in December 2023 and was impressive in his debut season.

Luis Suarez has made a new agreement with Inter Miami, and it will keep him for one more year in MLS. The Uruguay international has signed a contract extension for season 2025. Suarez joined the Florida-based club in December 2023 and was impressive in his debut season.

Impressive debut in MLS and an exciting season ahead for Miami

The 37-year-old reunited with former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi and scored 25 goals across all competitions. Suarez helped Inter Miami to secure the maiden Supporters’ Shield title this season. His side also set an MLS regular-season points record of 74 but failed to cross the line in the MLS Cup playoffs.

“I’m very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fan base, which for us is like family. We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy,” said Suarez.

His contract extension came just after the appointment of Javier Mascherano as the new head coach of Inter Miami. The former Barcelona player replaced Gerardo Martino who resigned after Miami’s loss to Atlanta United in the MLS Cup playoffs.

Miami’s president of football operations Raul Sanllehi considers Suarez the key asset for the dressing room. “Luis was not only our leading scorer this season, but also a leader for the group. His impact cannot be understated,” he said.

Suarez recently announced retirement from internationals after scoring 69 goals from 143 games for the Uruguay national team. He played his major club football in Europe while representing teams like Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. He later moved to Brazil and played for Gremio before joining Miami.
