Jets’ Coach Robert Saleh fired: Owner Woody Johnson explains what got the NFL Coach fired

Ashwin Rawat

It seems like the co-owner of the New York Jets, Woody Johnson has had enough. October 8, 2024 will be remembered as the day when the Jets fired Robert Saleh, the head coach since the 2021 season.

In a statement released on the social media handles of the New York Jets, co-owner Woody Johnson quoted:

Why did the Jets fire Robert Saleh?

The only logical reason behind the firing of Robert Saleh seems to be the poor performance and dismal records for three and half years. The Aaron Rodgers-Robert Saleh coordination didn’t seem to yield the results that the Jets were hoping for. Even if we excuse the sub-par win-loss record of 7-10 from the last season, the return of Aaron Rodgers was expected to give the Jets the edge they were looking for.

Unfortunately, that was not the case. Numbers don’t lie. The Jets have scored the exact same number of points in the first 5 games of the 2023 and 2024 season, i.e. 93 points. The resemblance between the two seasons is uncanny as the Jets had the same win-loss record too (2 wins, 3 losses in the first 5 games).

Talking about similarities, for the 2022 and the 2023 season, Robert Saleh and co. had the same win-loss record (7-10). It was inevitable for the co-owners to take a huge step, given the fact that now they have a genius quarterback in Aaron Rodgers.

Robert Saleh Record

Robert Saleh’s win-loss record as a head coach is 20-36. Under Saleh, the Jets managed to win only 20 games and lost 36 (a win percentage of just .357).

Has Robert Saleh won a Super Bowl?

Yes, Robert Saleh won the Super Bowl XLVIII as a defensive quality control coach with the Seattle Seahawks. He has never won a Super Bowl championship as a head coach.

Who is Jeff Ulbrich, the new interim coach of the New York Jets?

Jeff Ulbrich, the new interim coach of the New York Jets, was hired as the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets on January 21, 2021. With Robert Saleh fired from the Jets, Ulbrich has been promoted to perform the duties as an interim coach, at least till the time the Jets appoint a new head coach.
