Jessica Pegula vs. Magdalena Frech Head to Head Record, Preview and Prediction for WTA Stuttgart Open 2025 Round of 16

Sankalp Harikrishnan

The winner will face either Andreeva or Alexandrova in the QF.

Jessica Pegula’s quest for a second straight clay court title begins on Thursday, when the World No. 3 battles Magdalena Frech on Centre Court at the WTA Stuttgart Open. Pegula received a bye in Round-1, ensuring her direct progression into the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Frech defeated Sara Errani in a thrilling opening round match.

Flying into the European swing on the back of a sensational spring season at home, Jessica Pegula is in a rich vein of form at the moment. She has already won titles in Austin and Charleston, alongside finals in Miami and Adelaide. The 31-year-old recently dethroned Coco Gauff to reclaim her career-high WTA ranking of No. 3 in the world. Holding a 25-6 record in 2025, Pegula has been heralded as one of the favourites for the Roland Garros title this year.

World No. 28 Magdalena Frech is one of the Polish women’s tennis headliners – alongside Iga Swiatek and Magda Linette. After coming very close to breaking into the Top-20 in late 2024, Frech suffered a poor start to the current season. Her pre-quarterfinal appearance in Stuttgart will be her first Round of 16 in 2025. The 27-year-old has only one win against Top-10 players in her career.

Pegula and Frech are set to face one another at the 2025 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix after a gap of two years. Their last meeting was at the 2023 WTA-1000 in Madrid, which the US Open finalist won in straight sets. Similarly, their 2021 Chicago Open match-up was also dominated by Pegula.

Jessica Pegula vs Magdalena Frech WTA Stuttgart Open 2025 Prediction

While Jessica Pegula enters the draw fresh and ready to go, Magdalena Frech may be recovering from the fatigue endured during her Round-1 win. The American starts as the firm favourite – in terms of ranking, current form and surface. There shouldn’t be any real threat to Pegula’s progression into the quarterfinal stage.

Prediction: Jessica Pegula in straight sets.
