After an eye-catching set of Round-1 battles, the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart has reached the Round of 16. The top two seeds – Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek – will feature alongside some of the WTA’s best players. With three wins needed to reach the final destination, things are about to get heated at the Stuttgart Open 2025.

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka received a bye in Round-1 at Stuttgart. This is her first competition after her glorious spring outing in the USA – where she reached the final in Indian Wells before claiming the Miami Open title. Additionally, Iga Swiatek will oppose her in the other half of the draw. Yet to win a title in 2025, her desired clay court season couldn’t come sooner.

Jessica Pegula, who recently climbed up to No. 3 in the WTA Rankings, is also gunning for glory at Stuttgart this year. She is in Swiatek’s half of the draw, while Coco Gauff is the main threat to Sabalenka’s hopes of reaching the final. Other contenders include reigning Roland Garros runner-up Jasmine Paolini, No. 7 seed Emma Navarro and former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko.

WTA Stuttgart Open 2025 Round of 16 Schedule

The Round of 16 action at the WTA Stuttgart Open 2025 begins on 16 April 2025 and culminates on 17 April 2025. While some Round-1 matches are also scheduled on the same day, it will be Iga Swiatek who will kick things off in the pre-quarterfinals on Wednesday. Here is the full list of matches:

Aryna Sabalenka vs Anastasia Potapova (Ret.)

Aryna Sabalenka was set to open her Stuttgart account against Anastasia Potapova on Thursday. The World No. 1 was handed a bye and received automatic entry into the Round of 16. Meanwhile, Potapova beat Clara Tauson of Denmark 2-6 7-6(10) 6-3 in Round-1. However, the Russian pulled out of the tournament right after her win, meaning Sabalenka will enter the QFs without playing a match.

World No. 2 Iga Swiatek is looking for her first title of the season. She takes on Jana Fett, who earned an upset victory over Donna Vekic in Round-1. The five-time Grand Slam champion has a 1-0 head-to-head record against Fett ahead of this encounter.

Diana Shnaider vs Elise Mertens

Eighth seed Diana Shnaider made an early exit in her first clay court tournament of the season – the Charleston Open. She beat Veronika Kudermetova in the first round. On the other hand, Elise Mertens eased past Aliaksandra Sasnovich to confirm her spot in the Round of 16.

Coco Gauff vs Ella Seidel

Coco Gauff is a strong clay court specialist, but hasn’t managed to find her groove in 2025. Stuttgart is the perfect opportunity to gain some much-needed momentum. She will face Ella Seidel, who won the all-German Round-1 match against Tatjana Maria in three sets.

Jasmine Paolini vs Jule Niemeier

Roland Garros 2024 runner-up Jasmine Paolini thrashed Eva Lys 6-2 6-1 in her opening round on Tuesday. She is on collision course with World No. 121 Jule Neimeier. The German made a comeback to defeat compatriot Laura Siegemund in three gruelling sets.

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Mirra Andreeva

The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Round-1 saw a family feud, when the Andreeva sisters stood on opposing sides of the net to inch closer to the title. Erika’s unfortunate retirement meant that 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva confirmed a clash against World No. 22 Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Jessica Pegula vs Magdalena Frech

One of the favourites to capture the Stuttgart Open crown, Jessica Pegula enters the draw on the back of a Charleston Open title charge. She begins her campaign against World No. 28 Magdalena Frech. The Polish star overcame a thrilling deciding set tiebreaker vs Sara Errani in Round-1.

Emma Navarro vs Jelena Ostapenko

In possibly the pick of the Round of 16 match-ups, World No. 11 Emma Navarro battles former Roland Garros champion Jelena Ostapenko. This is the first meeting between the two vicious ball strikers. The winner faces No. 2 Swiatek in the quarterfinals – while Ostapenko has never lost to the Pole, Navarro is yet to win a match against her.
