The World No. 2 is yet to win a title in 2025.
Defending champion at the Roland Garros Championships, World No. 2 Iga Swiatek will start the buildup to her title retention campaign on Wednesday. She kicks things off at the WTA Stuttgart Open, and will face Croatian Jana Fett in the Round of 16. The swashbuckling Pole is the firm favourite in this encounter, and will face either Emma Navarro or Jelena Ostapenko if she comes through.
Iga Swiatek has made a bitter-sweet start to the 2025 season. Although she is yet to make an exit before the quarterfinal final stage, the 23-year-old star is also yet to win a title this year. Swiatek began with a heartbreaking semifinal loss to eventual winner Madison Keys at the Australian Open. Post this, two semifinals and two quarterfinals have meant that she is languishing in the chase for the No. 1 ranking. However, this is her beloved time of the tennis calendar.
When the draw was released, odds-makers had a Swiatek vs Vekic Round of 16 sealed and authorised. However, 28-year-old Jana Fett produced an immaculate array of shots to upset the Olympic silver medalist 7-6(2) 6-4 in Round-1. Coming though qualifying, Fett has only played the Australian Open and one WTA Challenger on the circuit this year (the rest have been ITF tournaments).
Iga Swiatek leads the head-to-head record against Jana Fett 1-0. This will be their second meeting, and first on this surface.
Swiatek has locked horns with Fett way back in 2022, at the Wimbledon Championships. It was a Round-1 battle which the five-time Grand Slam champion cruised through in straight sets. The indoor clay courts in Stuttgart will further suit Swiatek’s style of play – creating big troubles for the Croatian World No. 153.

Iga Swiatek is very likely to display a dominant showing. The Polish sensation likes to begin her campaigns with strong performances, in order to carry the momentum going forward. Despite Fett’s upset victory in Round-1, expect no further upsets in this crucial Round of 16 at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.
Prediction: Iga Swiatek in straight sets.
Iga Swiatek Win: 1/33
Jana Fett Win: 22/1
