Aaliyah’s memory fuels Jeudy’s record-breaking night
On “Monday Night Football,” Jeudy delivered one of the best performances of his career, racking up 235 yards and a touchdown on nine catches. He set a new record for receiving yards against a former team, breaking the legendary Terrell Owens’ 16-year-old mark.
On a field where records were shattered and history was made, Jerry wasn’t just playing for the Browns or for redemption against his old team. He was playing for her.
For Aaliyah.
His sister. His Lulu.
Aaliyah Jeudy was born a fighter. She entered this world too soon, so fragile she could fit in the palm of a hand. Trisomy 18—a condition so cruel it left her unable to walk, talk, or do what most kids her age could. But she was loved. Deeply. In the Jeudy home, she was the heartbeat, the light in every corner of their lives.

And Jerry was her rock.
Even as a young boy, he stepped up. He’d rush home from street football games, not to rest, but to help. To suction her tracheal tube. To change her diapers. He made her laugh in ways no one else could. She was his everything.
And though Aaliyah couldn’t speak, her laughter spoke volumes when Jerry was near. She lit up. He called her Lulu, and she was his biggest fan.
But sometimes, life takes away the ones we love most. Aaliyah passed in 2016. Seven years. Seven hard-fought, miraculous years.
When she was gone, Jerry shared a photo of her—wrapped in a pink blanket, a pink star in her hair, breathing tube still in place. Her eyes wide open, as if she was ready to keep fighting. It was a moment frozen in time, a reminder that she had defied the odds for as long as she could.
Jerry didn’t crumble. He couldn’t. He chose to play just days later, pouring all his pain and love onto the football field. It was his way of grieving, his way of keeping her spirit alive.
After being selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Jeudy struggled to find his rhythm in Denver. But since joining the Browns, Jerry Jeudy had a career revival, particularly after Jameis Winston took over as the starting quarterback.
In the four games leading up to the Broncos matchup, Jeudy had 25 receptions for 379 yards, playing a crucial role in Cleveland’s offense.
Despite his record-breaking performance against Denver, the Browns fell short in a high-scoring game, losing 41-32. Winston made history of his own by throwing for a franchise-record 497 yards, but his two pick-sixes proved costly.
The loss overshadowed Jerry Jeudy an his incredible night, but it didn’t diminish the significance of his tribute to Aaliyah.

Jerry Jeudy may not have walked away with a win, but this was more. It was about love that doesn’t fade, about carrying someone with you even when they’re no longer here.
Aaliyah’s gone, but she’s not. She’s in every touchdown Jerry scores, in every smile he shares, in every record he breaks.
Because some bonds don’t break. Not even death can take them away.
