Experience vs Momentum as Berlin Doubles Final Promises a Tight Clash
Top-seeded duo Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani will square off against unseeded pair Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls, for the first time, in the Berlin Open doubles final today. The Italian veterans advanced to the championship match without striking a ball in the semifinals, after their scheduled opponents, wildcards Paula Badosa and Ons Jabeur, were forced to withdraw due to Badosa’s right hip injury.
Meanwhile, Mihalikova and Nicholls have been quietly crafting a giant-killing run of their own. The unseeded duo have stormed through the draw with three straight-set victories, toppling seeded teams including Chan/Perez, Kichenok/Routliffe, and Muhammad/Schuurs en route to their biggest final yet.

Paolini and Errani, both ranked No. 6 in doubles, have already collected three titles this season: Doha, Rome, and most notably Roland Garros. The Paris win marked Paolini’s maiden Grand Slam in doubles, while Errani added a sixth major to her name and a second at the French Open.
The Olympic gold medalists also made a solid quarterfinal run in Stuttgart but were upset by Ekaterina Alexandrova and Zhang Shuai. Outside these deep runs, however, their season has included a string of early exits.
My first ever Grand Slam title…🤩🤩 What a tournament, what a day, and what a doubles partner. Thank you, Sara!!

I’m more than grateful to my team, the tournament organizers, my sponsors, and my family. Thank you for everything!!
Forzaaaaaa Italia!! 😄🙏🇮🇹@rolandgarros @WTA pic.twitter.com/Hj7S1p3l5l
Interestingly, Mihalikova once partnered with Errani during a Challenger event in Charleston last year, and the pair went on to lift the title. That short-lived collaboration may have given the Slovak an inside track into Errani’s strengths and flaws.
Now, with Olivia Nicholls, ranked No. 29 in doubles, Mihalikova has formed a reliable partnership. The duo have reached the finals in Indian Wells and Paris (WTA 125), alongside semifinal and quarterfinal runs in Hobart and Lleida, respectively.
A big end in Berlin for Tereza & Olivia! 👏

Paolini and Errani’s Grand Slam-winning chemistry gives them the edge, but Mihalikova and Nicholls are riding serious momentum. Expect a close battle, but with the Italians’ experience likely proving decisive.
Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani have won doubles at the Italian Open in back-to-back years, Paolini also won this years' singles tournament the previous day 👏

Prediction: Jasmine Paolini/Sara Errani in straight sets.
At 13/20, Paolini/Errani are favored, but the in-form 5/4 underdogs Mihalikova/Nicholls offer solid upset value. The safest play? Back the Italians, but expect a long one.
Here are the betting odds according to BetMGM:
Paolini/Errani: 13/20
Mihalíkova/Nicholls: 5/4
