Sinner shuts down Shelton’s power game to reach the Wimbledon semifinals.
Top seed Jannik Sinner booked his spot in the Wimbledon 2025 semifinals with a straight-set win over Ben Shelton, defeating the American 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-4 in a thrilling yet controlled performance on Court No. 1. The Italian didn’t drop serve once, soaked up Shelton’s big-hitting game, and rose to the occasion when it mattered most.

The opening set was a tight affair until the tiebreak, where Sinner’s class shone through. Shelton started strong with a mini-break for 2-0, but Sinner snapped into gear with a forehand winner to get on the board. From there, he reeled off seven consecutive points, seizing the tiebreak 7-2.
Shelton responded with immediate aggression in the second, earning two early break points. But Sinner, ice-cold in the moment, saved both. The American’s energy remained high, but Sinner kept chipping away. At 5-4, the world No. 1 broke serve for the first time all match, stealing the set as Shelton faltered with errors in a final game.
The third set saw flashes of Shelton’s brilliance, including a thunderous ace at 140 mph to save match point. But he could never fully shake Sinner off his rhythm. There was a scare when the Italian netted at 2-2, drawing a gasp from the crowd, but he recovered swiftly and stayed a step ahead. Shelton, meanwhile, had the Court No. 1 crowd behind him, roaring “COME ON!” after key points, but it wasn’t enough.
Jannik Sinner becomes the youngest man to reach the semifinals of 4 consecutive Grand Slam semifinals singles events since Rafa Nadal in 2009.

There were concerns coming in about Sinner’s fitness after a possible elbow issue against Dimitrov in the previous round. Yet there was no sign of discomfort, only dominance. His serve was unflinching, his footwork razor-sharp, and his shot-making relentlessly efficient.
Serving to stay in the match at 4-5, Shelton put up a final fight, saving one match point in style. But Sinner forced another and didn’t let it go. A long forehand from Shelton sealed his fate. The world No. 1 marches on, now just two wins away from a maiden Wimbledon title.

Post-match, Sinner said, “I’m very, very happy about today’s performance. Playing against him is so difficult. You have chances and then he serves very well, as we saw in the last game. Overall, we play each other more and more, we got to know each other a little bit better, and I’m looking forward to these kinds of battles.”
