Ruthless Jannik Sinner sets unique Open Era Record enroute Round of 16 at Wimbledon 2025

Gulshan Sharma

Jannik Sinner will take on Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated Pedro Martinez 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday to reach the fourth round of the 2025 Wimbledon championship. It was completely a domination from the Italian ace, who is yet to drop a set in the ongoing grass-court Slam. Sinner was leading 5-0 in the opening set before Martinez took a medical timeout to receive treatment on his right shoulder.

During the pure hammering over the Spaniard, Sinner set multiple records. The three-time major champion has posted a 77-19 W/L record at Grand Slams, including a 16-3 in Wimbledon. The 2025 Australian Open winner has improved to 16-1 this season. Sinner secured his place in the fourth round of the Grand Slam for the record 17th time and surpassed Nicola Pietrangeli (16) to claim the all-time Italian record.

Jannik Sinner Breaks Roger Federer’s 21 Year Old Record in Wimbledon

Jannik Sinner is ranked number 1 in the world and he has setting new milestone this year. The Italian ace has now conceded the fewest games en route to the men’s singles fourth round at Wimbledon in the Open Era. Sinner surpassed 20-time Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer, who conceded 19 games in 2004 Wimbledon.

Sinner has been consistent in the Wimbledon as it marked his fourth consecutive appearance in the last 16 at the grass-court Slam in 5 attempts. The world No. 1 played finals in both Grand Slam tournaments this year and ended up as the winner in Australian Open. The Italian ace doled out 11 aces with Martinez clocking none. Sinner had a 79% win on the 1st serve and 58% win on the 2nd. He also converted 6/14 break points.

No Italian man or woman has won a Wimbledon singles title. Jasmine Paolini came close to the glory last year but faced a heartbreaking loss in the final. Sinner has an opportunity to create a history for his country this year. The Italian ace had a quarterfinal run in the Wimbledon last year where he lost to Daniil Medvedev.

Who will Jannik Sinner Play Next?

The Wimbledon 2025 round of 16 fixtures will start on Sunday with top-seed players like Carlos Alcaraz and Aryana Sabalenka will be in action on centre court. Jannik Sinner will take a rest and will come back on Monday to take part in the fourth round. The Italian ace will take on Grigor Dimitrov next, who outclassed Sebastian Ofner in straight sets. The world No. 1 holds the 4-1 lead over Dimitrov in the ATP H2H meetings.
