Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz Make Mockery of Records Ahead of Blockbuster Cincinnati Open 2025 Final

Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz set up a dream 2025 Cincinnati Open final with their respective semis victories on Saturday. While the Spaniard eased past World No. 3 Alexander Zverev in straight sets, 24-year-old birthday boy Sinner overcame a tough hurdle against Terence Atmane of France. By virtue of confirming their fourth final against one another in 2025, Sinner and Alcaraz have destroyed several longstanding records.

The Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry is one that keeps on giving. The pair has tasted unparalleled success over the past 20 months or so. Having split the last seven majors between them, the US Open could determine who ends the year as World No. 1. While Alcaraz leads the head-to-head against his Italian counterpart by 8-5, it was the top seed who dethroned the 22-year-old in his English kingdom last month.

“I’m ready to take the challenge [of facing Sinner],” said Alcaraz after his victory over Zverev. “I’m ready to see the things that I did wrong in the last match and try to be better on that side on Monday.” Meanwhile, Sinner was appreciative of his own mental strength to beat Atmane in the semifinals. “I knew I had to be very careful, and my mindset was in a good spot. I felt like I handled the situations on court very well.”

Sinner and Alcaraz are just the fifth pair in the Open Era to meet in over four tour-level finals in the same season, before turning 25. They are also the third duo (after Federer-Nadal and Djokovic-Nadal) to reach the final of four events in a row. The World No. 1, who is the first man to reach back-to-back Cincinnati finals since Roger Federer who did it a decade ago, is the youngest player to reach eight consecutive Grand Slam + Masters finals.

On the other hand, Alcaraz is the youngest player to reach three consecutive Masters-1000 finals since Djokovic in 2009. With his 25th Top-5 win on Saturday, only Federer managed to claim as many Top-5 victories in fewer matches than Alcaraz. On Monday, the second seed will contest an unthinkable seventh consecutive final on the tour.
