Italy Claims Third Consecutive Davis Cup Finals in 2025 After Flavio Cobolli’s Stunning Revival and Matteo Berrettini’s Breakthrough Win in Bologna

Italy’s depth shines as Cobolli and Berrettini deliver a historic home triumph at Davis Cup

Italy closed out one of the most dominant team-tennis runs in modern history on Sunday, defeating Spain 2-0 in Bologna to secure a third straight Davis Cup crown. The clinching moment came from Flavio Cobolli, who overturned a one-set deficit and a shaky start to deliver the point that made Italy the first nation since 1972 to win three consecutive titles in the post-Challenge Round era.

Cobolli and Berrettini Lift Italy Into History

For the third time, Italy leaned on the same duo who had carried them through the knockout stages. Matteo Berrettini struck first, setting the tone with a controlled win over Pablo Carreno Busta. His break late in the opening set lifted the entire arena, and once he closed out the match, the atmosphere inside the SuperTennis Arena shifted into expectation. Before stepping off the court, he looked to his teammate and the crowd and said, “Forza Flavio!”

Cobolli entered to a reception worthy of a returning hero, still fresh in the memories of fans who watched him save seven match points in the semi-final. That energy was quickly tested. Jaume Munar started the final rubber with a burst of clean hitting, attacking Cobolli’s second serve and silencing the crowd as he raced through the first set and snatched the opening game of the second.

Cobolli’s defensive lob in the next game, which Munar misfired wide, acted as a spark. The Italian’s movement sharpened, and his forehand gained bite to lift him point by point. The second set became an intricate battle with Munar. The Spaniard fought off four set points at 5-6, but the tie-break belonged to the Italian, who finally converted his seventh opportunity with a forehand that sent him leaping into the air.

The deciding set carried the momentum that Cobolli had built. Both players guarded their serves tightly until 5-5, when the volume inside the arena reached its peak. Two break points came for Cobolli. While Munar saved the first with improvisation at the net, the second slipped away as another Cobolli forehand punched through the court. One service game later, Italy’s place in history was sealed.

My journey into sports media began far from the field, rooted in the arts and sciences. Funny enough, I didn’t grow up a sports fan; I used to see it all as just noise. But a fateful writing job introduced me to the world of sports, and what began as a gig quickly became a passion. I understood those voices aren’t noise; they’re emotions of true sports fans, and now I am one of them, writing with the same energy I once questioned.
