Inter Milan head into Tuesday’s San Siro showdown as a settled, confident side aiming to take advantage of home comforts against a Liverpool team beset by turmoil. The Nerazzurri want to regroup after a narrow European reverse. They keep their push toward the knockout places on track.
Liverpool are arriving with question marks off the pitch and patchy form on it. Recent highs and lows in Europe have left the champions vulnerable. Now this fixture which will be held in one of the continent’s most hostile stadiums, tests their character and organisation.

The Nerazzurri have been largely consistent in Europe this season. They’ve lost only once in the group and remain dangerous at San Siro. Recent domestic results have been impressive. The side is scoring freely and looking sharp in attack. Defensive changes could be required after an illness to Manuel Akanji. Matteo Darmian and Denzel Dumfries are absent, so rotation is possible. Lautaro Martinez is leading the line in red-hot form and will be the main focal point of Inter’s threat.

Liverpool are coming to Milan under pressure after an erratic European campaign and several damaging home defeats this season. Dressing-room disruption has followed a high-profile public spat involving Mohamed Salah. He was even omitted from the travelling party. A handful of attacking names are also unavailable. Managerial authority and defensive selection are under scrutiny, with potential changes at centre-back and a reduced attacking bench making creative chances harder to come by.
This looks set to be a tight, tactical contest rather than an all-out shootout. Inter have been rock-solid at home in this competition and boast one of the best group-stage home records in recent seasons. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s offensive spark has been blunted by poor form and off-field distractions. Inter are expected to control possession and Liverpool lacking coherence in attack. Hence, a low-scoring outcome is credible, so the under 2.5 line offers reasonable value given the circumstances.
Lautaro is one of the most reliable finishers Inter have. He’s carried excellent habit into European nights. He’s also been on a sustained scoring run in Champions League home matches and arrives with strong momentum from recent domestic games. Inter are likely to create quality chances for him inside the box. Now with Liverpool’s defence under pressure and personnel changes possible, backing Lautaro to find the net at any time represents a plausible bet.
Calhanoglu is one of Inter’s primary creative outlet and also a goal threat from distance and set-pieces. He has shown the ability to influence games with late decisive contributions. He has also recently been directly involved in goals across Serie A fixtures. He’s the sort of player who can either open the scoring or create the decisive pass. Against a Liverpool midfield and defence that have shown fragility, his contribution to a goal is a realistic possibility.

A major off-field issue has unsettled the Liverpool squad along with their horrific run of form. Now they’ve travelled without several attacking options. Inter should dominate possession phases, create higher-quality chances and rely on Martinez to break the deadlock. Calhanoglu and others will provide the creative spark.
Inter’s blend of home stability and clinical finishing makes them favourites to control this fixture. Liverpool’s campaign has been rocked by inconsistent displays. Expect Inter to convert a couple of chances and keep Liverpool at arm’s length. So, a composed 2-0 home win looks the most likely outcome.
