Andre Onana’s Manchester United future is once again under the spotlight after he was left out of the squad for Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal at Old Trafford. United manager Ruben Amorim insisted the goalkeeper’s absence was down to lingering injury issues from pre-season, but the decision has reignited speculation about his long-term role.
Onana’s form has already come under scrutiny following an inconsistent first year in England. Now reports in Italy suggest former club Inter Milan are monitoring the situation closely and could make a sensational move to bring him back to the San Siro.
Onana joined United in the summer of 2023 for £47m after a standout spell with Inter, where he became a fan favourite. His performances were instrumental in their run to the Champions League final, where they narrowly lost to Manchester City. Despite his mixed record in Manchester, he remains highly regarded in Milan.

Inter replaced Onana with Yann Sommer, who impressed in their run to the 2024 Champions League final, though they were convincingly beaten by Paris Saint-Germain. With Simone Inzaghi having since departed for Saudi club Al Hilal, new boss Christian Chivu is reportedly open to recruiting a fresh No. 1. Onana, given his track record at the club, is firmly on their radar.

If the Cameroonian stopper becomes available, Inter are said to be prepared to make an approach. They are also exploring other options, including Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens, who has been linked with both Inter and United, but the chance to reunite with Onana is viewed as particularly appealing.
